Should I buy a Ren yet... *sigh*

Well, I imagine this question has been posed more then a handful of times here at forum. Regardless, I'll tell you a bit of my situation. I am basically clearing all my gear out to tighten up and make space in my work area (getting rid of S950,MPC2500,SP1200 and some other gear if any body is interested). I used to peruse the forums quite a bit back in the day and all I can remember is people complaining about the shotty workflow and constant crashing because of poor programming/faulty OS. My question is, has this changed? Does anybody, that was skeptical before, think differently now? Is the Software stable? I ask because I want to stream line my workflow and utilize my space better.

My second question is, with the ren being a couple years old now, any chance they are going to release something new say.... within 6-8 months? If anybody has any "inside information" they don't want to address publicly in the forums, you're more then welcome to PM me

I love the it....coming from a 2kxl - fuggin about with Zip disks and delays when tracking out into a DAW etc....this is just so much better....

for me its pretty much everything I ever wanted from an MPC......but then I wasn't mucking about with it back when it was really problematic.....

Yeah I hear ya, I was in the same position. I waited two years before I bought the Studio and I will say it was worth it. Maschine is nice too but if you're like me and grew up with the MPC way of building music, stick with the MPC.

My biggest concern with the Ren is the USB 2 to USB 3 compatibility that some people have brought up here in the forums (use the forum search for more elaboration on that topic). Also, we are steadily approaching software version 1.9 which means 2.0 will be right around the corner as well. If Akai plays it the same way Native Instruments did, then we can expect 2.0 to be a paid upgrade accompanied with new hardware. This is just speculation of course, so please take what I just wrote with a grain of salt.

My advice: If you want to use MPC software now, go with the Studio and keep some sort of audio interface around. Wait for the next iteration of hardware before plunking down the big bucks for the flagship MPC model.

Also, **** what Living Bate wrote. I couldn't go back to the old ways.

I think you should wait.. especially how they are on version 1.8. It wouldn't be wise to buy now when most likely they will release a 2.0 with new hardware.

I remember Maschine was software version 1.8 for awhile, but I didn't pull the trigger because I had a feeling something else was brewing. Then shortly after they released the MStudio and I bought.

@Ocular made a good point though, if you want MPC, you could mess around with the MPC Studio for less money until they release something new

in software releases 1.9 doesn't mean the next release is sure to be 2.0 - you can have 1.10, 1.11, 1.etc

2.0, traditionally, would probably indicate that a large amount of the 1.x code has been rewritten. So 2.0 versions are often much buggier than late 1.x releases are - iirc maschine 2.0 was buggy as shit when it came out and it took a while to iron out bugs.

so if it was me, i would probably cop the ren now.

Bugs and they removed stuff from the 1.x versions that have not come back yet.

I was where you are a couple of months ago. Wanted to clear out some of my older gear. An MPC 2000xl, 5000 & 1000 were part of this stuff. I was set to buy the Ren but figure a new one was coming with in a year so I hesitated and just let the 2000xl go and just scooped up a studio to quench the urge. I love that beast. I can only imagine what the Ren would be like. I'll let the 1000 go too butt i will keep the 5000 along with the MPC Studio until a new flagship is released and stable.

Grab a studio and wait out, they are well worth ever penny.

Yeahhh the studio would be a great option, but I dont think it allows external sampling... Which sucks cause I only sample records. Unless theres an easy work around whereby i can sequence the studio with my existing interface via midi or whatever and sample incoming audio that way.

Alright the studio is looking like more the choice.

Yeah that was one of my concerns but the audio card can handle that.
