Can someone test some kits I made with MPC Maid 187?

Hey guys,

just prepared some kits with MPC Maid 187 but don't own a MPC1000 anymore. Could you check if the kits do work on a hardware MPC500/1000/2500/5000?

And does anybody know how to create kits for the MPC Software without having the software installed? Is that possible at all?

Seem to work fine. The MPC Software reads MPC1000 format, so if you want to create kits for the MPC Software without actually having the software, you can indeed just use MPC maid.

Just remember that PGM format is not the native format for the MPC Software (XPM is), so there's a lot of MPC Software features missing from the old PGM spec (e.g. random/cycle layers, different filters, different envelope, layer offsets, pad loops etc, etc), and many of the 1000 program parameters just don't convert over so well.

So basically it's best to stick to the bare bones program settings to avoid disappointment - layer assign, tuning, mute group etc, definitely avoid LFO, filters and be careful with envelopes. Forget the effects, they don't carry over at all.

I believe you can test your programs in the MPC Software trial.

Great, thanks for testing! I didn't make any special assignments to the pads. I remember from tries in the past that the (old) MPC programs are not very compatible at all, when it comes to complex programs. So I'll just stick to loading samples and storing the kits.

Will give the MPC Software a try. I though it won't start at all because the Akai page tells me that I need to activate the software before using. Anyway, I'll check that.

With the MPC Software trial you'll get an annoying static noise every minute or so until it is activated, and saving is disabled, but other than that I believe it's fully functional.
