Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Man, as a long time user of the MPC 3000, I love the concept of the Ren.

I've watched it grow from an unbelievably back-asswords OS to an almost ready for prime time programs.

However, with 1.8, I have to conclude this thing just doesn't work. I guess what nailed it for me was the fact that you can't load more than 15 sequences in song mode on the 1.8 versions, so, then you have to roll it back, and hope your project will work, which of course, it won't, so there's 2 days of work just wasted.

Who makes a piece of music software, who's whole purpose is to make songs out of sequences, that won't let you make songs out of sequences?!?!?

I wish 3000's weren't expensive nowadays, because I really don't have the $$$$ to put out. But this thing is just too frustrating to work with.

Sure this is annoying bug. But you can work around it by combining few sequences at the song mode and convert them in a few longer sequences.

Yeah, but why should I have to do that?

But why should there be a work around for that? That's like saying there's a work around for the power button not turning the unit on.

It makes me wonder if the guys who are designing the software are actually using it.

Like, "OK Guys, we're done stuffing in new features, now let's see if it works, let's actually make a song."

Obviously, they can't have actually tried to do anything other than tap out a few loops, or they would have noticed that you can't make a song with it, and Roger Linn's song mode from 20 plus years ago is way better than the one in the current MPC!!!

Update to 1.8.2. That was a issue they fixed with that update.... inform yourself ....
By soultrane28 Thu Jun 11, 2015 1:05 pm
Except I can't install 1.8.2 on my Mac for some reason, and it won't work w. USB 3 so I can't use it on my new PC...

Inform myself? For real? Shouldn't the company inform itself that basic, simple, essential things can't be done in its software before releasing?!?

How about explaining what your real issue is, so someone can help you.

What exactly goes wrong when you try to install 1.8.2?

+1, I've not seen you mention this issue before - explain exactly what is happening, error messages, step-by-step, there shouldn't be any issues installing the update unless there's some permissions error on your system or a corrupt installer.

Alternate option - uninstall completely using the uninstaller application (Root > 'Library > Application Support/Akai/MPC'), reboot and install 1.8.2 fresh.

No need to get heated! I said it is an annoying bug. Personally I've always wanted the songmode to be more FL Studio-like. Calm down.

EDIT: And you've started an another topic where you would like to know about these workarounds. What do you want really?

Work arounds are nothing new! They've been around since equipment first existed. You had to workaround short sample time by speeding up the record or sampling in mono on early machines. On the 2000 and 2000 XL you had to work around the limited mute groups by setting up a series of simulataneous pads set to cut off additional pads. It's part of the game. All hardware and software has it's set of issues!

Can't figure out why 1.8.2. won't install. Got Akai to send me one directly, and it still won't work. 1.8.1 is installed fine though. (OSX 10.8.5)

As for workarounds; yes, trying to get the most out of minimal sample time is one thing, but a software based instrument that exists to MAKE SONGS shouldn't have to have a workaround to make songs!!!

At any rate, I just through 2 days of good work down the drain... sorry if I come off heated but yikes! 15 pattern limit in song mode?!?!? In the year 2015??!?

Well, I would like the workaround to be something like, "delete such and such file from your system library, and it will work properly" or something, as opposed to, "combine all your sequences into one big sequence, and carry on."

Sometimes, you don't know what changes you want to make until you hear the whole tune played from beginning to end.

That's the whole beauty of working w a pattern based sequencer. But if you can't chain the patterns together? I mean, I'm trying to think of something more basic that the MPC should be able to do, and it's kind of tricky...

Bro it was a bug ,,,the bug was fixed .....1.8.2 works great now...the issue your having is caused by a file not being erased .somewhere on your system lies a mpc file ....find it ....erase it....your issue is a personal one .its your computer.excuse me if i come off wrong .im not trying to .just saying the issues your having is personal not broad .if it wasn't ,this board would be filled with complaints about it,(installing 1.8.2 and 15 seq limit .) hope you success . btw try Time machine take it back to before you installed 1.8.1.

OK, whew... got it all back again. 1.8.2. is in, my work opens again, and the song mode bug is gone.

What a relief!

MPC Renaissance is the greatest product ever!

(Especially since MPC 3000, not the LE, just the regular one, are going for $2k on eBay, that's crazy!)
