Installing OS on MPC

Hey everyone this is my first post on here as Im just new to the MPC2000XL, ok so I have a problem with my MPC and it's driving me crazy, I bought it like a like one week ago and I still havent got it up and running yet, ive tried various different OS versions from the Akai sites, I went and got a USB card reader and have tried to install the OS with my 1GB CF Card to which i have been faced with a screen with lots olf letters and numbers just all scrabbled up nonsense, and also a screen that just says 'SCSI :0:', I dont know if its a problem with the CF Card or what the hell is going on, so i then tried using a 4GB SD Card but apparently the machine will only accept up to 1 GB cards for the OS to install? Is there any way around this and has anybody had the same problem and resolved it? and if it is the CF Card that is broken which i think i highly unlikely as it is being read perfectly by the USB Card reader then can i somehow use the 4GB SD Card to install the OS? maybe partition it?

If i remember correctly, you have to install the OS using a Zip-Drive or using the floppy drive (which was once in place of the CF reader). Don't take my word for it tho, it's been a while since i had a 2KXL.
