Is the MPC Ren as good as the MPC 4000 yet?

I have issues with pretty much every software sampler I've tried - Maschine, BPM, Geist, Ultrabeat, Battery. What I really want is the MPC 4000 as software - is the Ren anywhere near it yet? The modulation/filtering/fx is where it's really at on that machine. If the Ren is getting near it and is stable I'd like to try it.

I think the Akai software has similarities to using a MPC 4000 considering the features it offers within the Akai Software. You would have to take into consideration the Pro and Cons of your MPC production needs. I recommend keeping your MPC4000 and purchase a MPC Ren or MPC Studio if you dig the new features within the Akai Software. You can always combine both by sampling the 4000 within the Akai Software if you like your MPC 4000 sound. On the flip side if the Akai Software has everything you need then sell your MPC 4000 when you feel it's time.

I've bought a Ren when it just came out, and didn't like it at all. Can't do everything from the hardware and the software was immature.
I've tried maschine but i was missing Akai's workflow.
So i've taked back a Studio to give a try.
And i like it a lot right now. Not much things i do on the software so the workflow is pretty the same as on an old Mpc.
It's quicker to bounce in a DAW, you can use VST effects, it's as quick as your computer capabilities to load\save.
Well, i really enjoy this coming back opinion.
I had the 1K, 2K, 2K5, 3K, 60. No 4K so i can't compare it. But it do the job and quick.

It seems that people who plays a lot with Vst Instruments have more crash. I bought it 3 months ago and only had 2 crashes, but the auto save function is very usefull.

Just buy a Studio on internet, you'll have 30 days to try it !

Thanks for the replies. I can't find a Ren manual online (link on this forum is broken too) so I can't get the full detail. However just from reading the 'taster' of the MPC-Tutor Ren book I can already see that it is less sophisticated in terms of sample layering and modulation.

I really want the modulation matrix of the 4K and it's extensive filtering and layering options. I guess I might have to try one to really find out what it's capable of, but I have some doubts about it. Maybe it's better in other features though.

Anyone here have a link to the current Ren manual?

You probably won't find an updated manual because of the constant updating here recently.

I would recommend you take a look at the youtube videos for 1.7-1.8 from Sounds for Samplers and Hellfire to get an idea of if the Akai software current version suits your needs. As for Filters in the Program Edit window I would say it's based off the MPC 4000 with the editing capability of layering sounds and applying the filters.

That's called a bandpass filter.

Random question about filtering inside the MPC Software...
Can I apply the same filter to an entire program at once?

Yes

Do it using effect on the program.

You can even select which pads in the program will be affected by the filter as well.

Truth be told, I LOVE the flexibility my MPC Studio gives me, but I feel more inspired on the 4000. It's a very strange phenomenon.
