Sound Cards for Laptops

So I have a Dell laptop wiuth standard soundblaster sound card so i need a good quality one with stereo in and out and midi but am I right in saying that normal PC sound cards dont work with laptops??

Please let me know cos it's baffling me, and reccomend any good sound cards around the £100 and under mark.

You can't use PCI-based cards with a laptop, but cards using USB, firewire or PCMCIA work just fine.

Don't know of any good ones around £100 though.

You could check out what's on offer on turnkey.co.uk or some similar site.

IMHO there's only one realy great extern soundcard: the RME's Hammerfall Multifacew but it's not the cheapest one

there are allot of soundcards out there but the echo indigo i/o 3.5 inches by 2 inchess and weighs only a few oz. it is light and will pack very nicely into your laptop bag. where these other card weigh a pound or more.

Cause he's an Analogue Warrior, and that's just what analogue warriors do.

I would save up some cash and get an RME like he said. And don't forget to disable Speed Step on the laptop. I used to have a Dell and it wouldn't work with SpeedStep enabled.

RME has a realy great sound - it's worth the price ! But i saw some really good reviews about EMUs new 1820M (compareable to the RME Multiface) the price is lower (about 490$) and the details look as good as the RME unit.

i am in the same situation.
might get the idigo card but not too sure. it sure beats carrying around a firewire/usb box for a soundcard. but it only has 1 in and 1 out, 1/8th no less.
