Tascam Gigastudio

Does anybody know how to integrate the Gigastudio with my mPC 2000.??

Im looking to upgrade my setup to using some software but I seriously dont know what I would need or how to do it for that matter.....Can anybody reach out and figure this one out for me.... thanks

1. Gigastudio is very cool, but it doesn't record audio. So if that's the only program you're going to buy you'll be stuck pretty soon.

2. It needs a soundcard with GSIF drivers to work properly. Make sure your soundcard has this

3. Unless you're a composer for classical orchestra's or filmscores, it's probably overkill as just a sampler. Something like Halion is enough for normal people.

Perhaps you can be a bit more specific on how you want to upgrade your setup. Are you into sampling from records? do you have any other gear besides your mpc? How fast is the computer you're planning to use? What's your budget?

well my studio is pretty much an upgrade....I have the protools Tdm system, Mackie 8Db mixer, Motif 8, Trinity, triton, proteus 2000 and E-mu turbo phatt....thats pretty much...I have Neumann U87 and an Avalon mic-pre...for vocals....so basically I'm sort of content with what I have....I'm just in the shopping for new equipment mode and I'm looking into the roland fantom....for some more sounds and I presume I was looking into this Gigastudio stuff....but I was told that i would need a seperate computer..is that true....like, how would I use it considering my setup....

i would not touch giga sampler. to really utilize giga sampler you would need a pc just for giga sampler. i have owned giga sampler since day one and always had problems with it. just go to the giga forum and see for yourself.

it has problems....ah man thats not good.....so is it a sampler?? can i upload sounds into my mpc2000 and use them for professional production or is just simply a waste of time and money.....??

It's basically a very very big sampler. Instead of using RAM, it was the first sampler to stream directly from harddisk so the samples you can load are no longer limited by memory.
The latest version supports vst plug-ins, and uses convultion modelling for efx and reverb.

You'll need a pc and a soundcard with something like a lightpipe-output for the audio-side and with gsif drivers, so that sucks. And you'll need to hook it up to PT as if it were a normal sampler, midi cables .If you do the math, you're looking at a $1500 sampler.

I suppose for far less money you can buy a very capable sampler, some efx, and update your your ProTools rig (if it needs updating).
MOTU Mach Five is a good alternative for you. It's available for ProTools and loads every sampleformat there is (including Gigasampler).
I've used it for a few months, and it's a beast.

What host sequencer are you running Mach five in? PC or Mac? have you had any teething problems with it, or is it full steam ahead?

I use Cubase sx 2.2 on a pc. When i first installed it, the utility to import sampleformats didn't work too great, but they fixed that pretty soon.

i would purchase native instrument's Komplete 2, which contains:

battery 2 - drum sampler
intakt - loop sampler (read rexs files)
komtakt - sampler (one of the top out there)
kompakt - sampler (scaled down version of komtakt)
b4 - organ vsti
fm7 - fm emulator vsti
absynth - synth vsti
reaktor - synth vsti (can build your own synths with this)

and some other sh!t for about $1000 and you will be set for a few years to come.

i forgot komtakt reads giga sampler files too.

kontakt is ill. its been my main sampler for a minute. With the mpc controlling it of course.

knotakt also streams from disc just like giga.

i dont enable that but what is the real advantage of direct from disk?

You won't have to load the all the programs in your RAM, so you save RAM. This way you can also load paches bigger than your RAM memory, so if even if you have 512mb ram, you can still load programs bigger than this.

binger, gigasampler comes with a 1 gig piano patch, let say you have a pc 1 gig of memory that piano patch could not be loaded. so, the people who invented gigasampler (not tascam) invented the technology of streaming from the patch from disc. streaming for disc also lightens up the cpu load because the disc is doing all the work. battery2, halion also uses this technology.
