Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Question on ATAPI 741 Multislot Flash Card Reader/Writer

I am looking to purchase this item but I am holding back because I am unsure of the power cable solution. I am under the impression that it would use the floppy drive power cable. You know, the red and black one that the MPC2000XL comes with. However I read something to the extent that someone had to engineer a power cable. I would appreciate someone shedding some light on this subject. I took a look at the PDF and there was no 'schematic'.
I am currently having trouble with Addonics ADIDECFB. I am under the impression that my SanDisk Ultra 2GB is in Removable mode. I am aware it needs to be fixed mode.
My reader is :
Set to Master
I have a 40 to 40 IDE cable (snug and well into the motherboard)

MY OS is 1.2
My floppy power cable is delivering power.

I am considering the ATAPI 741 because I understand it can use SD cards. Is this the case? It seems the manufacturers of CF cards are sending out less and less of these cards as FIXED mode as people use them as solid state drives and that, for some reason, does not sit well with them. It would seem foolish to place myself in a position where I am forced to pay whatever price they decide is fair for Fixed mode CF cards.
I have read this thread and it has offered a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

Did you ever have the floppy disk installed in your mpc? Honestly you should be fine with your current card reader. It took me a while to find a few Sandisk Ultra 2 gig.. I stocked up from a combination of craigslist and amazon.. it helps that I am in Los Angeles. Your card reader is presently using a floppy connector and I am sure the multi card reader you are talking about also uses a floppy power connector. I am able to use all kinds of media with that card reader however my MPC crashes if try to format any of them. I format with an external scsi reader and also under linux with gpartd.

My problem is that it is not popping up as ATAPI at all. I sent back my CF card, could you be so kind as to what format I should set my CF card. I have Gparted installed and I tried various flags and formats and nothing seemed to work.
Yes, my Floppy was installed, it worked well, I even reinstalled the OS from it to make sure it was working well.
I bought one of the AKAI 1 GB flashcards, I want to make sure the card reader works well before I send it back to Addonics.
I have a 40 to 40 IDE cable. So far nothing but disappointment.....

You shouldn't need to do any preformatting kind of shit to get your cards to work. The readers I've got and have sold people work from the get go.

The only issue I've ever experienced was certain brands just didn't format right or for some reason or another caused the mpc to act all screwed up. I use those sandisk ones and have not had a single problem. Only downside is it won't make a partition over 1gb in atapi mode.

No, it won't work, even if you managed to find SATA to IDE converter.

No USB card reader will ever work in an MPC. Ever...

^Yeah usb is waay to 2005 for an MPC… Yesterday I picked up the weirdest thing at the thrift store, it's a musical recorder that came with a SCSI cable that was attached to a SD card reader, so basically an external SCSI sd card reader… When I fix my MPC screen today i'll try it and let everyone know what happens

usb requires drivers and mpc does not do drivers so usb drives will never work with mpc.

but there is chance that sd card reader 'may' work with your mpc (model?) but need to see if it is compatible and recognized by your mpc. also need to check maximum memory size flash card.

I personally use hot swap and no-hot swap cf card readers with my mpc2000 and mpc2000xl. works perfectly with different flash cards. bought them from mpcstoragesolution.com . glad I bought them when I did because these card readers have become rare.

let us know if the sd card reader works with your mpc model.

I posted this in another topic about compatible CF cards...but it's in the MPC 1000 section where I don't know how many XL users would see it and this seems like an appropriate topic for me to say again that I scored a bunch of Transcend 80x 2 gig cards off Craigslist and was happy to find out last night that they work for the MPC 2000 XL (but obviously only recognizes a gig of space). Other than that, I have 2 Viking Components 512mb cards that haven't given me problems either.

sounds like you have an ide card reader that limits to 1GB (that is if you were able to get 1GB out of 2GB). this assumes using 1.20 operating system. if you were using 1.14 operating system, then partitioning is possible up to 16GB. this is for both hot swap and no hot swap 'scsi' cf card readers.

I thought the 2000 XL was limited in how many gigs it could read off a card in the first place? And using more than 1 gig required partitioning or something? Or can our MPCs actually read more than 1 gig without having to partition? I was never too concerned with the extra gig I couldn't use because I have 25 of the cards, but if it's actually accessible, then that's just an added bonus. I have the main Addonics CF reader that people have recommended in this thread, but I plan on tracking down something hot-swappable now.

Like he said, if you're on 1.20 then it won't read or format more than 1gb. If you're on 1.14 and have a reader that actually works, with 1.14 or a scsi card reader, you can have multiple partitions up to 16gb.

I've always used OS1.14c to partition my 8GB CF card.
