MPC1000/JJOS2XL

For several years I have been using the MPC 1000 with JJOS. But I have not yet used the "pattern" function.
Somehow I was able to do my thing without patterns.

But I am now curious, wondering if I am missing something important. So now the time has come ...

The JJOS2XL manual is pretty succinct about what one can do with patterns.
It explains in details how to create one, edit one, save one (in a bank ?), and how to recall one.
But it does not really tell me what it is and what I could do with it.

Maybe it assumes that this is really basic stuff everybody has to know .... :Sigh:

I sort of get a hunch (but am not sure) that a pattern is a specific track configuration saved in memory, that can be played with any program (so that the pattern is not linked with a specific program).
But I am not sure and I do not see the usefulness of it since I could always copy a track and past it in another project, without creating a pattern.

So my candid questions (plse bear with me):

1. what is a pattern, and what it is good for ?
2. what is a track pattern and what it is good for ?
3. what is a line pattern and what is is good for ?
4. why is there a difference between the 3 ?
4. is a pattern single-sound (instrument) or not ? (most of my tracks are single instrument for editing ease)
5. Is it possible to create a pattern from a MIDI track ?

A pattern is just one part of the beat you're working on.
You can make it as long as you want. And that's the part that loops.
Put loops of patterns together.
Sequence your loops of patterns.

i know zero about midi.

1. A pattern is something you can make and use. just limited to your imagination and 200 bars.

2. pattern to track means it gets written to that track.

3. line pattern has nothing to do with patterns, its just the same moniker, but this line pattern thing is just to loop and write parts in a track.

4. see above.

5. and 6? WTF, did you try? did you attempt anything at all. Did you experiment or just went nope, too hard I better ask,? At least you read the manual so your half way there, but at least give it go first before asking.

And you did not do a search either, as I have posted about patterns many times, so I wont cover old ground again. Yes it does midi, it only does one track, if its midi then your not gonna be able to do more than one instrument on one midi channel. So try making ones.

sorry I think TreHola is not answering about patterns but the pattern mode in the grid edit window which has nothing to do with pattern to pad.
