JJOS 1.56 Slice Function Question

I am new to JJOS in general. I'm somewhat confused by an issue I have been having.

I load up a Sample that I initiate the slice function on. I get my chop points where I want them and then I slice it into a new program. Pretty straightforward.

However, on occasion once the slices are assigned to the pads some of the slices don't sound the same as they originally did. I can go into the Program screen and increase the hold value and that will fix it. I just don't understand why this only seems to happen in some instances vs. all instances.

For example I sampled one piano phrase and then chopped it up and everything sounds exactly the same.

I then sample another piano phrase and encounter this issue.

Tonight I sampled a bass guitar DJ LP and again I had the issue with having to increase the hold.

In this instance the release being set to 20 also created a nasty shrill beep at the end of my sample. Why are all releases automatically set to 20?

There is no current version of any jjos with number 1.56. Go to the jjos website and update to the current version and then see if that solves your problem. Make sure you select the correct generation (jjos1, os2 etc) and the correct mpc model

Sorry I didnt specify. I have a 2500 with OS128XL. I see that it is on version 1.58 now so I will try that. Thanks.

Ok, I did as you requested and updated the OS. Still ran into the same problem.

I found out what fixes it, but I am not sure why it is happening. I will try to explain to the best of my ability and then maybe someone will have some insight.

1.Use the slice function and set my chops
2.Create new program from the slices
3.Playback the new program with the notes shortened as before.
4.Go into the Trim screen again and look at the individual chops. All the chops have the loop function on. The loop point for each is at 256. I reduce all the loop points to zero and leave the loop function on. This does nothing.
5.I go back and turn the loop function off completely and then all of the keys play as they did when I first hit the slice function.

So turning off the loop feature fixes my issue I'm just not understanding what exactly is happening and if it is a bug or not. I looked back at my full sample before the slice and found that the loop function was turned on with it and set at 256. This probably happened from my original trim where it was a much longer sample when i first recorded it and I just chopped it down to that particular part that I wanted to keep.

I'm still not understanding why once I zero out the values for the loop point it doesn't change anything until I actually turn the loop function off.

If you are on 128xl why not try the non destructive chop.
