Sampling WAV files

Hey, I'm wondering how you guys sample WAV files if you don't use MPC Editor? I've been sampling from my iPod Classic using the L/R RECORD IN on the back of the MPC connected to the headphone jack on my iPod, but it's quite cumbersome to catch the sample right where I want it.

Is there a better way to sample WAV files if you don't have MPC Editor?

I had the same problem with my iPod Touch. It's too small to cue up without taking a while. It's easier just using a computer or an iPad.

I know it's possible to load the sample into your DAW on the computer, and sample it from there. I just don't know how to get the audio from my computer to the sample inputs on the back of the MPC. Do I need a 1/8" to dual 1/4" TRS cable? I'm pretty sure I would just connect the audio out on my computer (1/8") to the 1/4" sample inputs on the MPC. Is that correct?

Yeah that's correct. That's what I'm using here. You can find them cheap on eBay.

Cool, I'm in business then! Which DAW do you use? I'm wondering how I would load up several one-shot WAV samples in Cubase... Do I just load each sample on it's own track? I think there's a Media Pool for the purpose of loading many files at once, but I've never used it for that...

I use Reason. But I'm an old Cubase user. You can import waves on either the same or separate tracks. It's up to you.

Ok, I have the cable connecting the line audio out on my PC to the sample inputs on the MPC... but in the Sample New Sound window, there is no indication that the sample is being heard by the MPC. I have the .wav sample playing back on loop in Cubase, but the MPC does not seem to hear the signal.

Any ideas what could be the matter?

Wondering if anyone has some pointers on this issue above?

I have a 1/8" cable connected to my PC's LINE OUT jack, and the other end is a dual 1/4" connected into the MPC's stereo RECORD IN. Cubase is open with a stereo audio track; the input/output routing is correct as far I know (Stereo Out is going to my monitors).

BTW, the audio interface is connected to my PC via Firewire. Does that Firewire connection bypass my PC's LINE OUT jack? In other words, if the Firewire is connected, does that make it so audio can't pass through the PC's LINE OUT? This was the only reason why I could imagine why the MPC is not hearing this one-shot sample playing back from Cubase, which I would like to sample from the Sample New Sound window.

When you installed your soundcard you would have switched from the built in soundcard to the new one. Don't think you can use both at once but you can switch between them in the audio preferences. Or just sample from your interface.

Cool edit pro for loading and trimming samples or any daw for that matter. U can even chop in ur daw and then sample each chop or load em via flash drive or whatever

*dmarz45, I'm using an MPC 3000 without a flash drive installed; I also don't have MPC Editor, so I can't load 'em via zip drive, either. DAW is definitely the way to go, though, for loading, editing and sampling .wav files, instead of using an iPod!

I don't think I'm familiar with switching the audio preferences (is that in the Windows audio control panel?), but outputting the sound from the audio interface sounds better, anyway. My interface is an M-Audio Profire 610, it has 10 outputs. I'm guessing I connect a dual 1/4" to dual 1/4" cable from 2 of the outs on the Profire to the Record Ins on the MPC? If so, how would I configure this extra output in my audio interface's control panel? Do I simply turn up the faders on the corresponding channels?

I hate to have to ask but I've done web searches and couldn't really find any relevant info. Thanks in advance.
