So I finally received my ren about a week ago and so far i love.. took a min to get everything setup and get back in the groove of the mpc (had the 5000 when it was released but sold it for a maschine) but so far so good. sampling is a bit different tho i never really fully tapped in on the 5k so its a learning experience.
my only disappointment with the software is the sequencer. i understand that this is a MPC coming from a 100% hardware only background but Akai decied to add software and missed alot of the basic features in the sequencer. i know i can still export the stems and bounce them to a DAW and yeah im sure there are workarounds to alot of this but this is very very basic stuff. HOPEFULLY by 2.0 they have it together!
1) Song mode and track view should be joined! like wtf? in song mode i have a BIG HUGE screen with nothing on it but a bar across the top showing the sequences as its plays through
On track view i can view each individual track and its midi events also being able to select/highlight and delete certain event/notes on that track.
why cant you do that as your sequence plays in song mode? i dont understand. Song mode should show every track and its differences going from one sequence to the next and you should be able to edit and build your song right on the screen. im no coding expert or designer but this seems like it should be very easy to have done.
2) Mixing (i have seen a workaround for this but again it shouldnt be the case) - to go along with #1, I should not have to mix each individual sequence separate! WHAT. THE. FXCK...!!
So I finally had a loop i liked and decided to give song mode a try to complete the rest of the beat. nothing fancy. exploded my drum program onto individual tracks. copied out a view sequences and went to play it back. noticed the mixing was a little loud so made some adjustments on one of the sequences. played it back again and only that ONE had the same mixing parameters. thats dumb af imo.
The way they currently have the mixer setup with tracks and program mixing seperate SHOULD BE THE WORKAROUND or an option if you choose so.
if they can incorporate #1 the song mode issue with the individual tracks and editing ability to be able to build right in song mode instead of having to leave song mode and go delete mute or edit each track with, #2 adding ability for each track to automatically create its on program so you can mix across all your sequences at once. then you have a REAL song mode.
other than that i love this machine its great. it looks and feels amazing and im getting used to the workflow again.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Akai fix this! I hope they see this. My description may be a little off cause im fairly new and i was extremely confused trying to figure it out but i think someone can make this happen. needs to happen.
