PSU fuse blown after CF reader installation, Blank Screen

Hello all. Got my MPC2000XL new about 15 years ago and it has been in my possession since. The only modification I ever did was upgrading RAM to 32mb some 5 years ago.

I finally decided to install a CF reader as the SCSI zip external was driving me mad.

I ordered the star-tech reader from amazon.

Installed it as per instructions

Booted up MPC and there was a loud bang.

checked inside and the PSU fuse was totally blown, MPC would not turn on at all. so I ordered replacement fuses.

Fuses arrived today and after installation it turned on but the screen was just white and all button LEDs were lit up.

Then I tried disconnecting the CF and returning it to the original config of just floppy, same results.

Tried completely disconnecting floppy, CF and all associated cables but still nothing.

Checked the CF jumpers are set to master.

At this stage i'm about to give up and cry in the corner. I read every related thread I could find and it seems like my motherboard was probably damaged after the fuse explosion.

My last idea was to reach out on the forums and see if anyone had anything else i could try.

EDIT: IDE cable was 100% the correct way around

did you check all the voltages out of the power supply board (I can't remember exactly but you should have something like a 5volt for the cpu and -12/+12volt for the analog part...just get a look at the analog pdf from the schematic) if you don't have the 5 volt the system will not boot, but you would have back lighting. What might have happen is you blown fuse "R400 4.7 1/4W " check if you have something behind it!? and lets hope this is the right answer (otherwise that might be IC700 BA17805 wich could be down)...

I'll buy a meter tomorrow so I can test it, I'm not very good with electronics but i'm willing to give it a go if it might save my baby

The following day I turned it on and noticed a strange burning smell

So i've decided to abandon repairing it myself due to safety risks and look into getting it repaired. Does anyone know if it's worth getting these repaired vs buying one on eBay? I'm based in the UK that helps.
