Programs getting wiped

I don't know if this is a bug or if it's part of the XL's architecture, but I have a problem with patch changes wiping out whatever program I have loaded up.

So I had my first few tracks, you know...kicks on track 1, snares on track 2, hats on track 3...all playing back a drum program loaded up from the MPC, and then track 4 set up for MIDI, basically playing back a synth (the sweet analog Akai AX-60 I picked up this weekend!) and everything was fine until I manually changed patches on the synth. Now this has happened before and I think today I realized why...but the problem seems to be I have the synth routed into the MPC's MIDI in as well and it's sending out patch changes to the MPC. Which I understand on the synth's end and this normally isn't a problem if you stay on the tracks set up for MIDI, but if you change over to one of the other tracks, ones that are playing back the MPC's internal programs, and then do a program change on the synth, it wipes out the program loaded up. I guess I can understand it trying to change the MPC's internal programs as well, but it's frustrating when I've loaded up some other sounds I haven't saved into the program yet and have forgotten to pay attention to what track I'm on.

So for example, if I switch from track 4 (MIDI) to track 1 (internal program) and then punch in patch 33 on my synth, it's sending a program change to the MPC to also search for it's own patch/program 33, which doesn't exist, but I'm not sure why it would WIPE the program. Obviously I just need to pay attention to my tracks and set patch change sends to off in my synths, but I still don't know why it wipes programs; you'd think it would try to change the MPC's program and when it can't find the right one, you'd be able to go back to the program 1, but nope, wipes the program and you have to load the program and sounds all over again. Has anyone else had a problem like this? I'm not even sure what the point of this post is anymore, if I'm just venting...or if I found a bug...or if I'm alerting others about this problem...or if I just didn't completely understand how the MPC operates lol.

Yes, I stated in my post that I now know I have to turn off program change sends and stay on a corresponding MIDI channel if I'm going to route any synths back into the MPC. I'm just annoyed that it wipes the program, particularly if I made changes to that program that I haven't saved yet, and that I have to load it again and try to figure out what changes/additions I made prior to the wipe :/

I have a MIDI patchbay coming to me next week so I can run all my synths back into the MPC (I'd rather play with them and their knobs/sliders than use my MIDI controller), so I'm just gonna have to be extra careful from here on out I guess.

Well, I have some synths with a shitload of knobs, so it's easier to route my synths back into the MPC so I can record CC changes and whatnot directly into the MPC from those, instead of having to map everything to one of my MIDI controllers and do it via that. I've got a rackmount filter with MIDI, so I want to twiddle knobs on that, it's easier to hit a pad on one of my drum machines than to figure out the MIDI mapping between them and the MPC. And also, I'd rather be able to sit down in front of one of my synths and play it, with a full keyboard range, instead of play around on my dinky keyboard MIDI controller; it's only one octave and has only about 8 knobs, while something like my Korg MS2000 has over 20+ knobs. Routing something like that through my other MIDI controller, a BCR2000, would get confusing and I'd forget which knobs do what.

I essentially need the octave range my synths provide so I can play with both hands and I do a lot of CC/automation work in my music, so I need access to all the knobs and functions of my synths. And I'm a rather tactile person; it's no fun to have a bunch of sweet synths if you don't physically play them. I finally had to break down and get a MIDI patchbay off of Ebay to simplify things. Other option would be to buy a bigger MIDI controller with more knobs, but I have a hard time buying gear that doesn't make some sort of noise
