New 1k user with jjos2xl questions about layering

first post here. i've been an ASR-10 user for 20+ years and know that sampler workstation backwards and forwards.

recently bought a mpc 1000 and updated to jjos2xl. seems fairly simple since i know a bit about sequencing and sampling. i'm in the process of loading my sequences from my asr-10 to the 1000. that was easy.

but then came the sampling part. i sampled my drums, bass, strings, piano, horns, and a few other instruments i will be using. no issue with these.

BUT... I sampled my emu b3 module. one program is the slow chorusing leslie, and the other is a fast leslie program. the looping was tough on the fast leslie. you just have to be patient. i'm quite proud of how it turned out.

my question is....is there a way i can layer one program onto another and assign a velocity to change between the samples? what i mean is, say i set the slow leslie at a velocity of 1-75 and set the fast leslie at 76-128? then when i play the organ part with my midi controller, i can just play soft or hard to get the different programs.

i went into the program mode and tried to layer the pads. i pushed the lit up window button and nothing happens. does it work with looped samples or just single drum type notes? if i can figure this layering thing out, i'll be good to go.

any help will be appreciated. thanks for letting me on your forum.

It's better to put everything in the same program.

yes, i'm looking for the window like the top photo. i tried to click the window button while highlighting the pad numbers like in the bottom photo. nothing happens. the window button is lit, but it does nothing.

i would like all the samples in one program and just set the velocity so only the slow leslie works at low velocity and fast leslie works at high velocity. all i have to do is figure out how to get the layer window to open

i'm getting to think i have a dead tact switch on the window button. the led works, but i cant get the window button to do anything. i've replaced the normally used switches (left, right, up, down, mode, main) but hadnt used the window button yet. i just figured it worked because it lit up.

guess i get my bag of tact switches out and replace the window switch.

when i first got the mpc1000 it had issues with the up, down, left, right buttons. so i ordered 25 of the alps and 25 of the omron tact switches. i replaced the bad switches with the alps tact's. the omron are a softer touch. i dont know if i'd like the lighter click when i hit the buttons.

anyway....i fixed the issue. it was a dead windows tact switch. even though the led lit up, the switch was dead. i replaced the shift, main, mode tacts. when i have more time, i'll replace all the other switches. i also noticed i have the plastic Data wheel pot. it works fine, but as much as it gets spun, i'll probably replace it too just to be safe.

now my windows button works and i can now layer my B3 organ samples.

Out of curiosity what's the reference of your alps tact switch?
I replaced mine with SKHHAKA010. They feel lighter than the stock ones.
Just wondering how light is this Omron switch.

the original tacts were tight snapping clicks....the alps are slightly easier to press, but still have the click so you know you activated it.....the omron seems like you barely touch them and they activate. they still click, but are very light touch. i would think i'd over shoot an edit if i had the omrons throughout the board. the alps feel more like the originals. luckily, mouser carries many brands. the alps and omron were mentioned in many forum topics. and at 21c each, you can afford to try a few different tacts to find your preference.

maybe if the mpc1k would've came with soft touch tacts, i'd get use to them. i tried to match up close to the original tacts. the alps seem like the sensible choice.
