Looking for Akai S2000 Sampl Zip Disk 100mb with Bootable OS

Hi,

I'm in need, after moving and losing the zip disk with the Akai S2000 OS.

This is for a circuit bent Akai S2000 I'd like to get up and running again. Previously, I had a failing floppy drive, and was able to get it to boot one more time to transfer the OS over to a zip disk. But alas the zip disk is gone.

I'd gladly trade knowledge about circuit bending the S2000...although none of it is secret.

Will also be willing to pay $ for your time, postage, or trade stuff

I have some zip disks and a drive for my PC. Maybe I could copy the OS and send it to you. But I'm not sure if the disk needs to be formatted in the s2000 to work. Once that's sorted out, I could have you PayPal me the cost of shipping and I'll send it out to you.

I'm looking forward to seeing this machine circuit-bent. I've seen the S01 and the S20 bent before. But never an S2000. Let me know what needs to be done with the Zip disk, and hopefully you'll have it all up and running soon.

I'd gladly pay you the shipping cost...what I did previously is use my dying floppy drive to boot Akai OS, format the Zip disk, and then create a bootable Zip disk. After I did that, my floppy drive died for good.

I did finish the bends. I brought all of the sample RAM pins to the front of the computer using an Arduino breadboard. Many of the bends sound really great, especially with breakbeats. Hence my desire to get it up and running!

If you are thinking of trying the bends, I encourage you to do so. None of the bends are destructive. The only painful part is that the main board has to be removed, and one has to make sure none of the bends are touching each other.

"Recently I was able to successfully boot from a zip disk so I finally was able to get that working. I’m not sure if I did anything special, but I only had to make sure that the Zip Drive was on SCSI ID5. The Zip drive also had to be on with a Zip disk inside. The OS was saved to Partition A or the first Partition. Works great!"

Yeah, looks like it does need to be formatted on the S2000. It's typical of Akai samplers of that era including the MPC2000. Hopefully someone else with an S2000 and a zip drive can help you out here. I sold my S2000 10 years ago. So that won't help.
