LED LCD display kit for Akai S900 and S950 sampler + photos

oh man, im sorry to hear that. i didnt knew that. thought you were the only one who produced them. but nice to hear that you could help me anyway.

i told my buddy that i wanted to order a new display, and he said that he had two of them when he bought his unit. he bought the unit from italy. may this info help you out to find out whos replicating your displays?

Until then, try this: Looking at the P401 connector from the front, the bottom pin is +5V, top pin is ground.

Looking at the display from the front, where those wires are soldered, the solder point on the left is ground, the point on the right is +5V. This is the layout on my displays anyway.

So the bottom wire from P401, solder that to the solder point on the right, and the other wire to the left, if you see what I mean. If for some reason the layout is different, there's nothing to worry about, the display will just not light if you get these wires mixed up - no current will flow. You won't damage anything, not the S950 and not the display. So give that a try, it should work first time.

thanks man, had attached the lcd display to my s950, works as you described, just had to put the display behind the mounting brackets because the lcd is thicker than the original one. just screwed the screws in from behind, no need to use other screws.

Since this post is about s900 displays I want to ask you something.
I recently picked up a used s900 and as soon as I turn it on it makes a sibling noise around 2k 3k hz from the front part of the machine. Could that be the powering of the display? How can I fix it?

@maybachufer I'm willing to bet that it is the inverter making that sound. It's always been the case with other rackmount Akai units as well. If you switch to one of the new led joints I'm betting that sound would go away. But those cost too much money in my opinion.

I bought a white on black one and it works a charm. Desoldering the 14 pin connector sucks but I got there.
For that money it was worth it.
