TR-8 & TB-3

Sup people. Just copped a TR-8 & a TB 3 to add to my arsenal. I used them to replace my mpc 1000 (which I havent really used since I got the Ren a year ago) and my boss dr670 (Which I didn't use much anyway). The TR-8 I think is great for layering my drum patterns that I create on my MP-7. The TB-3 is sick. I'm already combining bass sounds with that, the MP-7 and the FA-06. Already I have some pretty crazy basslines just messing around and not even making some serious shit. I just wish the TR-8 had more kits to play with however, the controls can heavily alter the sounds. I think it was worth the buy. As for the TB-3, I love the different bass sounds that I can combine with what I already have. They are both great buys for amatures and experienced heads alike.

Was just wondering if any one else has these groove boxes and what they think of them? Any tricks or such things someone new to the machine might miss? I'm also having a little trouble applying effects at times. I get lucky and get them working, but I wanna be like boom, effects on. Thanks Guys

I messed with a TB-3 at Guitar Center and didn't like it much. I guess because I'm used to programming a x0xb0x.

I have the TR-8. I use it live three times a month with band and at other events. I think it is good for live performers because of the ease of use and its directness.

Often I use it just to set the tempo for the band to lock on to. We just connect it to the PA system and let just the handclap and/or rimshot keep us all in time.

I host an electronic musician jam session here in Washington DC and the TR8 is the unit that most people gravitate towards because of its ease of use.

I am not buying the other kits that you can add to it. Simply because I own those other sounds in other gear and I can easily have the TR8 midi play those other sounds.

The only trick I can think of is layering it with another unit. I tend to not use it by itself. I find that the ROLAND sounds need to be layered and compressed. I double it up with a Korg volca beats and the kick is subtly wonderful.

That sounds awesome. Yes, I layer it w my MP-7. I didn't even know that there were kits that can be added. Where can I find those? Also, since I just got it, I am having a little bit of trouble applying effects. I think it says to hold down the pad you want to apply the effect to, then hit the step button next to the effect you want. I had it work a few times by messing around, but I want to be able to do it without f ing around. Do you know exactly how to do it?

The TR-8 was designed specifically for live use. I've been considering buying one and using it with my SP-404SX. They would make a good pair.

I'm glad the TR8 has the audio input, so you could trigger any incoming audio(The TB3, your MPC, your turntable, vocals, etc) in the steps you program in your beat. It's almost more of a musical instrument in that it begs to be played with all the sliders and knobs. You can go to town with it, dropping sounds in or out, so that the audience or you never get bored, as you experiment with it. I only wish they gave it more pattern storage. My Electribes can run circles around the TR8 when it comes to it's internal memory. I guess you get around that in your computer DAW, but that's my only complaint against it.

The 707/727 sounds kind of seem like a rip off, and I hope they start to include the TR606 or 626 sounds someday.

As far as the TB3, it's okay, but it's a shame the decay function wasn't one of the knobs(I guess it's hidden, but it can be accessed if you need it). But even though it's cheap, I'd still prefer a Bassbot or xOxbox for that true Tb303 sound. (As much as you could get for not spending $2k on the REAL 303)
