loading MPC500 programs into an MPC1000 running JJOS1/2XL

Hello all,

I've finally dusted off my MPC500 and have been using it for making some programs on the run.

But when I've come home and tried to transfer the files into my MPC1000 running JJOS1 some of the samples don't load into the programs, and the filenames for those particular samples have a '?' at the start.

I've also booted up my MPC1000 using JJOS2XL and have the same results.

I was half wondering weather its a filename convention thing, as it doesn't happen to all of my samples. Is there something simple I'm missing in this process?

Weirdly, the samples have seem to have changed names in the process too. Once the program is loaded into the MPC1000, they have different characters at the end of the file names. Sometimes they look like numbers, sometime English characters, sometimes a little more abstract.

Any help would be welcome! Currently having to sample my 500 into my 1000 in the meantime...

Could you post some examples of the original file names?

Actually, I can't seem to see them.

I know this might sound a little weird, but when I've copied the folder from the MPC500 to the desktop, they don't seem to exist as wav files. But they do load when I load the program into the MPC500. I've checked the whole CF card, but can't seem to find them on it (I know, sounds like a totally noob thing, even has me a bit weirded out. Is there some internal memory I don't know about?).

The MPC500 has abbreviated the names when I try and look at them on the screen of the 500. But it looks like the names are a bit odd in the 500 too (sorry, didn't realise this prior to posting).

I've take some photos below (ignore the black squares, looks like I had the cursor flashing when I took the photo). I would have names the first sample 'Doom01' or something to that effect, then let the MPC name the consecutive files according to its own convention.

Anything longer than 16 characters is going to get abbreviated on screen, but this will also cause problems if you have a whole bunch of files where the first 16 characters are the same - the MPC500 will not be able to differentiate between each sample. Basically any sample you load into your MPC should have 16 characters or less.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense, think I've ran into similar problems using MPC maid once before.

Shall keep the file names short from now on, thanks for the help!
