Mpc1000 user looking to add sp 303

Hey everyone,

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on this subject?

I currently use an mpc 1000, but have become curious about adding an sp 303 to the mix to add that gritty/warmth that the 303 has.

As I'm happy with the workflow/sequencing etc of the mpc, I was wondering if it's possible to sample in, chop up, sequence and do everything as I normally do and then when it's time to track out to my DAW (reaper) play each track into the sp, add effects etc then play into the DAW???

Will this method still get the desired effect of grittiness/warmth etc???

ya you could do that like this: run a stereo cable out from the mpc. then get a stereo to rca converter. turn the external source on on the sp303. and run rca out from the 303. then the 303 is like an effects pedal.

if yr interested in sampling the tracks themselves in the 303 and then adding effects, that could be tricky, as the sampling time on the 303 is quite small and limited.

You can control the 303 with the mpc via midi. I have a 505 instead of a 303, and I have to set the MPC up to send a midi program change message to the sp before it will allow it's pads to be triggered remotely with the mpc. I don't remember if that was required on the 303 or not but they are very similar machines and I wouldn't be surprised if it did.
