MPC2000 memory problems

Hi,

I found an MPC being sold in a small shop for £199. They said that it has a problem in that they haven't been able to upgrade the memory from 2mb to anything else. Also the manual is missing.

I was wondering if anybody has had any problems with memory upgrades. The people in the shops don't seem to intelligent so I think I may be able to get an MPC2000 for £199 and do something real simple to upgrade the memory.

Also if the memory cannot be upgraded, how much would you pay for it?

I reckon an MPC2000XL is worth 200 quid just for the sequencer - you could always buy yourself another sampler to handle the sampling duties. It may be that they've been sticking in the wrong memory and there is nothing wrong with the machine at all (doubt it though). Then again, maybe there's quite a lot wrong with it and the memory problem is only the start of your troubles

Make sure you get at least a 30 day warranty if it's second hand. I'd also get in writing that they are selling you a machine that is 100% working apart from the inability to upgrade the memory chips - that way if you get it home and it has other things wrong with it, you can get your money back without any problems. Legally, you cannot sell second hand equipment that is faulty unless you make clear the exact faults to the customer. If you do find fault, take it back immediately.

word tutor is right, a mpc with the pads to control midid and a S3000 with it (seqence w/ the mpc) would be phat, and it will cost you like what? 200 quid and another 200 for the S3000 so for 400 pounds you have a real nice rig...

Would you still feel the same if it were a MPC2000 and not an MPC2000XL?

Also, I am buying the MPC as something to just mess around with. I have a very good set up at the moment which I am totally happy with, however I have always been interested in why people talk about the SP1200 and MPCs with so much passion. When I saw the price this shop was selling it I thought, 'why not? might as well check out what this baby can do'. I have an old Emu-ESi32 sampler which was around at the same time as the S2000 and when I do anything to the sample I have to wait whilst it 'processes'. Is this the same with the MPC? Finally, if I were to fix the memory issue is installing a zip drive in the floppy drive port possible and can you use a bog standard zip drive?
