I'll make a wild guess and say you can have a bass track that's 16 bars long, but your beats track can be 4 bars if you wish – so the sequence length wouldn't dictate the length of all tracks.
That's how it is in Maschine, for example, where Patterns (tracks in Ren) in a Scene (sequence in Ren) can be of different length.

The problem with maschine in this regard is it auto loops the shortest patterns to the length of the scene. To avoid this you have to make the pattern as long as the scene and leave the rest of the pattern blank.

How will Akai handle it?

This is the only thing thay got me excited! A software update with new features. Hoe it doesnt change 1.8 workflow too much

YES, I don't want MPC to be a DAW....it's ridiculous...it would take years and years to reach the level of the competence....even without VSTis?

THAT is precisely the point!! We want a REAL versatile and modern VST multi out MPC concept (sampling, pitch-chopping, beat making...)...for maybe programming 4-8 or even more channels into our DAWs for complete themes!
A product that allows us the simmetrical-both ways communication, midi sending to DAW, audio editing in a freeze and modern capabilities of PC power and 2015...drag and drop of EVERYTHING!!! and all the flexibility as what it is...a multisampler with 8-16 channels and outs? Effected? OK, perfect! With audio recorded and edited inside? Even better! With all those tricks and Libraries!! from old MPCs!

That's the point, AKAI people! (because I guess that apart from the technical teams, also there are people in the councils and decisions after Numark group)
Not the suposed all in one DAW that Akai pretends (and shamely not even come close)...or the piece of hard-soft intentionally limited "sheeeet" as "controller"+VST, avoided to be integrated, or to control other stuff in a modern 2015 studio context that they are providing in fact for 3 years!

I think so too. I've read in 2 different places that 1.9 will be free for existing Ren/Studio users. They emphasize this as if it is something so special and extraordinary. Kinda sounds like as if further updates afterward have to be paid. :hmmm: If so, then :vomit:

I guess 2 will be payed too. But the reason behind saying that this 1.9 will be free I think it's more related to the maschine studio release that needed a payed upgrade for previous users to upgrade, just a marketing strategy. Like saying "we have a new mpc but the update is free for existing users". IMO of course.

Go to minute 41.11 for workflow, screen placement, etc. He came away pretty impressed. Worth a watch.

A paid upgrade at some point is inevitable, there is understandably a limit to how many updates you can get as part of that initial purchase. In an ideal world they'll fix all outstanding bugs and poorly implemented features first so people who choose not to upgrade can be left with a nice stable unit and not be expected to paid to upgrade to the more stable version.

Recent changes to UK law now make this a clear legal requirement, they are really coming down on software products that are full of bugs, especially where advertised features are not working correctly.

One problem is that people will assume (probably correctly) that once the paid upgrade is available, new customers purchasing the hardware will be getting that upgrade for free ("MPC Touch now ships with 2.0!"), so I guess a lot of people will be holding back on that purchase to see what happens, especially as we know that MPC prices take a nosedive within a few months of release.

As I mentioned in a different topic, I'm also intrigued to see whether existing owners will be offered a discount on purchasing the Touch, considering they already have an MPC Software licence . For example some kind of cash back deal through their Akaipro.com account when they register the new hardware in it.

How much of the £279 you pay for an MPC Studio covers that MPC Software licence?
