I'm thinking something that looks a bit like the MPC studio really (slightly fatter probably due to the audio interface).

The DAW aspects of the controller software can utilise the MPC CPU for processing, with work-in-progress projects utilising flash storage, with projects either saved to the cloud or to an onboard SD card (for transfer to a computer for mastering).

The drive to install a controller screen on the MPC itself seems like a waste of real-estate that could be used for additional hardware controls, when most people have (or can easily get) a tablet to use as the screen. It's not therefore completely 'standalone' but in practice, it is ultimately portable, the screen can be positioned to the producers liking easily and could open all sorts of future possibilities.

I would love a situation where I could use the computer to gather all the samples and load kits etc into a project, drop onto an SD card into my mythical MPC and then take it, along with an iPad in a carrying case to wherever else I feel inspiration, whip out the MPC/iPad and continue working on the beat until I'm happy, then save the stems/wav to the SD card to master when I'm back near the computer.

I'm sure theres a million people who will say 'that would be rubbish', but it would certainly work for me :)

 OR you could just connect your MPC 'controller' to a laptop which is much more powerful than an ipad...

Now there's an idea! :Sigh:

We really need a separate thread about standalone.

You mean something where it stands alone?

I don't know what happened to him. I found his vid on Vimeo,

https://vimeo.com/10118052

His concept was first mentioned on "9 Jun 2009". I think it was before the NI Maschine was released.

But yes. It's the Ren concept in a nutshell.

And I do think MoTu should have contacted and contracted the guy.

Hey don't forget me! Lol! I kinda been pushing all them behind the scenes. I have proof BPM Imagehad a dedicated controller but it never reached the light of day. Also I was told by NI to wait for updates but I installed my own color pads and was about to start a company when they dropped Maschine Mk2. Then (Numark)Akai said enuf!

BPM has real-time time-stretching from my MachFive to mention just one gangsta feature. ....now where's my 1.9?.....

or you can just use a mpc1000 and get JJ to add ipad control. you get the small form factor, compact flash storage, the ability to connect to computer to load your kits/samples.

I really don't see the need for a stand alone. I've been using MPs since back in the day when the 60 was new. I see this forward progress a good thing. just get the 1000 or 2500 and use it in tandem with the ren/studio/touch.
