Hi there,

I'm an MPC Ren user looking to integrate Ableton live 9 into my setup. What I would like to be able to do is run my MPC Ren and its software in standalone mode alongside Ableton, whilst recording individual MPC tracks as clips in Ableton live.

I am aware of the ability to sync the two via an IAC Bus, which I have tried to no avail. When I use this, all I can do is simply play the current MPC sequence via Ableton's transport controls - I cannot record an individual Ren track or sequence as an Ableton Clip. Furthermore, no matter what mode I use the Ren in - standalone or plug in - I cannot get the Ren's midi to record to Ableton's Piano Roll.

I do not care about using the Ren's transport controls to control Ableton as I would rather use the Push. I would like the Ren to control the MPC software and Push to control Ableton. My main concern is simply recording MPC Ren midi sequences as Ableton clips.

Is there something I'm missing or is what I want to do simply impossible?

Thanks for any help or advice that you have to offer!

Kind Regards,

Zarathustra

If I where you I'd sell the REN and get a 4k. If you have a Push you don't need a REN. Just my opinion. Or sell the REN for something from Elektron, you can't go wrong with them especially since the release of overbridge. This is just coming from a Live user.

The mpc software doesn't act as a multitimbral plugin ,(meaning the midi clips in abelton will only play the currently selected track or program) This means that you can't have ableton sequence the individual tracks/programs inside the mpc software. i'm pretty sure all legacy mpcs (non mpc software) so mpc 5k and below are multi timbral... I'd personally recommend the mpc1000 with jjos to keep the footprint small but have absolute flexible midi routing and control for wha you want to do..

When mpc is loaded as plugin, you have to turn on midi mode (double hitting song button or holding shift then hitting song button) to control or input midi into ableton...
