Old audio interfaces

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but..
I've been looking at cheap audio interfaces, mostly older rack-mount type ones that come with a pc card and a scsi/printer port type connection.
Basically I just want to know if these older type ones are rubbish and I should just get a usb one?
Or are they ok?
Any advice?

I'm still using my 10 year old Delta 1010LT with breakout cable. Bought it back when Protools M-Powered was all the rage. Still works and sounds great to this day. I may say the hell with it and upgrade in the future to get rid of the PCI card. I'm waiting to see what USB 3.1 Type C brings to the table beforehand.

@hok-2 it's not a waste. A lot of PCI devices have been sold for less due to people picking motherboards for newer intel platform systems that lack legacy pci support. As far as I am aware, all AMD motherboards still have legacy PCI, and then all Intel LGA2011 (I'm not sure about 2011v3 though) motherboards, as well as the older intel boards like x58 chipsets.

I still have a Delta series card, the Audiophile 2496 which has been rock solid and I am still finding it a little weird to adjust to my RME Multiface II because like Walmartian said, it has a new type of clarity and I'm hearing things interpreted slightly different from what I'm used to.

By the way - For people who like the Delta sound. There are a series of cards from ESI that I believe use the same DSP as the Delta series: http://www.esi-audio.com/products/juliaxte/ - You can flip the card around if you want to go from RCA to 1/4", and it has quite low latency as well.

For me the main issue when buying an old audio interface is OS support - even if it's supported in your current OS it's very likely that and OS update will make it unusable in the very near future, especially on MAC OS.

Like for example some interfaces from 8-10 years ago don't work with OSX El Capitan or Windows 10.

So I'd investigate this matter of I'm buying an older interface.

RME interfaces are top notch for this. They still got driver support for sh*t that came out 10+ years ago.

I have the Delta 1010. I like the sound, but I've never been exposed to anything better. It was rock solid on Windows 7. That's the last officially supported OS. It works with Windows 10 but the ASIO driver crashes often. In FL Studio I can use FL's ASIO driver (with a little worse latency) but it crashed once using the MPC demo and the MPC software crashed immediately.

The EMU PCIe card was good. I used the 1212m (which I think was basically the 0404 card with daughter board for ADAT/digital I/O before upgrading to RME. For the time they had some of the best A/D, D/A conversion and was a really cheap option. I gave my card away to a friend but if you can get your hands on a cheap one through eBay or something and it works I'd say grab it. Weird thing too, it was one of the first PCIe audio cards, 5 times cheaper but almost just as good as anything else, and for some reason they discontinued it.
