Stuff MPC Touch does that Ren & Studio cannot

Tempting, but I believe the next flagship model will trump this in many ways. The Touch only has 1 MIDI I/O and no assignable outs. The outputs on the Touch are probably unbalanced. The Renaissance kills the Touch in terms of connectivity-no contest whatsoever. The Touch is great for collectors or cats who have small setups. For complex studio setups, this adds nothing to the mix-literally. Personally, I hate when any of my screens get dusty-much less getting full of fingerprint smudges which is completely unavoidable using a touch screen. They should have included a stylus with a double-tap function to zoom in to waveforms. The 'smart phone' squeeze and open method is simply a mistake from a form and function perspective. At least they added a cloth to wipe the screen lol, which will get scratched over time as I'm sure they didn't use guerrilla glass for the touch screen. Yup, it's a nice looking toy for collectors but for connectivity in a larger setup, it doesn't add anything and literally gives you much less options for connectivity to other instruments and recording mediums. I'm holding out for the next flagship which will probably be announced at NAMM or MESSE 2016. It will be much better than this for sure.

but i dont see it as a toy lotta peeps work in the box nowadays so the need to multiple I/O's is reduced.

but ur right i think the replacement ren will be out early next year (will it be standaonle? who knows) but certainly the touch screen will be present and with more knobs and sliders.

I like the Touch but can't see it replacing the Ren. I think the main course is yet to come.

Unfortunately for a lot of people, I don't think the next flagship model will be stand alone...I believe it will be an amazing controller though with similar color aesthetic as the Touch, with tons of tactile control, in addition to a tilting touch screen like the prototype we've all seen. They definitely need to put the 4x4 pads in the middle again with touch screen above. Hopefully, they will realize that they need to add a stylus with the double-tap zoom etc. function I had mentioned in my last post. The screen should be scratch-proof at least. The I/O options will probably be close to the Renaissance with with differences being a dp (thunderbolt) port as well as HDMI for ext monitor connectivity. We just gotta wait man

yeah but I would not rule out a stand alone; also I will be interested to see what styling the come with for the larger ren replacment, cos they can just do a bigger touch otherwise shit will just be a big ass rectangle or square.

but as a curren mpc studio user who is also left handed; seems like this touch was made for me.

good to see left-handers get some love in addition to and taking it back to the mpc60 and mpc3k legendary status with the pad placement so the touch is in good company in that regard.

right handers should be able to just get used to the device and use it as it; same way lefties do in all things.

So how many people, myself included are not buying the Touch because are waiting for the before called "MAIN COURSE" "Flagship" model.
Another marketing strategy for akai? Seems it is not going to be very fruitfull this way. And all because the leak and the "This is just the beggining" thingy.

Hell yeah, the Touch is a nice upgrade from the Studio for sure! As far as where the pads are located, it isn't an issue for me as I don't care if a can't finger drum out beats with good timing-with my left hand. The finished result is all I care about. I just wanna clarify that when I say 'toys' I'm not insulting the Touch in any way. I call all of my equipment my toys. A stand-alone model would be awesome but I'm not going to be disappointed with a new controller as long as they improve on the Renaissance. Believe it or not, a lot of cats still like to connect their MPCs to their outboard gear

As a Renaissance owner his examples of what the Touch can do that the Renaissance can't are pretty much irrelevant and do nothing to persuade me to buy into the touch screen. The pinch/expand 'smartphone' feature is a good way to smudge your screen all to shit. No thanks. A stylus with a rounded rubber tip whereas we could tap on the wave form to go into zoom mode would have been much better. From there a q-link could have been used to zoom/out in to a desired amount. That Dan guy is the one responsible for this poor implementation. I think he designed the ugly aesthetic of the Renaissance as well. Dude's head is in his ass. At least the color aesthetic of the Touch will be the first MPC model in a while where cats won't be buying a Style-Flip cover or some other custom color covering. They got one thing right-the colors.

I see little point to the touch for the same reasons mentioned.

Also, being that this needs to be hooked up to a computer,

features are redundant:

-Touch Screen? -> have a screen and mouse (if needed which is never)
-Simple Audio I/O -> all computers have this

Personally I prefer the form factor of the studio.

Fits nicely in my lap, and is balanced symmetrically.

The touch is a little gimmicky especially considering how

small the screen is. I can already see using it being

a hit and miss (pun intended). I'll keep my studio and

2500. Waiting for the next standalone....


The one thing I do like about the touch are the q-link knobs.

The ones on the studio are not fast enough.
