MPC R Audio interface ASIO performance is garbage!

Why didn't I notice it before? Well, because I had always been using a separate audio interface with it, speculating that the one on the Renaissance (**** , I HATE that cheesy name) was inferior in some way, and I was right. Tried every sample rate and buffer setting available using Akai's shitty implementation of ASIO drivers and got the same result every time. Typical scenario: I create an 8 bar loop using say 4 percussion sounds. I press play and let that loop just play...after about a minute or two this crackling starts...first a pop, then two, then 3 until this is a shit ton of digital distortion for no apparent reason. Long story short, now the MPC R is just a MIDI controller. I had to install ASIO4ALL drivers which work fine to send audio from the laptop headphone out to my mixer, however the 'R' is only a MIDI controller now. The audio pops and clicks have never returned, proving it's something either in the hardware or Akai's shitty ASIO drivers. I've had this ugly thing since it's inception and never had a problem with pops and clicks, UNTIL i tried to use it's own audio interface....garrrrbage. Definitely won't be 'touching' the Touch

Ridiculous! When you check Akai's support forum there are some guys who have been waiting for 3 years to get it fixed. I didn't even know it was a problem until I started my studio rebuild. Set up a little lab to keep the ideas flowin and then this...Well at least the MIDI functionality works

Gotta laugh at their suggestions...Check usb cables for damage....good lord

Sounds like USB 3.0 problem, or wi-fi problem. I've experienced both. Try turning USB 3.0 off from BIOS or turn off your wireless adapter from device manager. Annoying, yet fixable. I actually bought my new desktop without wireless adapter because of this.

Hey thanks for the reply man. I don't think it's the wifi since I always disconnect the wireless when I work. Regarding the USB though, if I disable the 3.0 ports, how will I connect the MPC? Do the ports still function as 2.0 ports with the 3.0 disabled? Never had to try stuff like that before. Don't want to lose any ports and I don't want to be disconnecting/reconnecting from a 2.0 port. It's not supposed to be that way. I shouldn't have to sacrifice USB ports for this thing to work properly

Ports still function as 2.0. For more reading check http://www.akaipro.com/kb/article/1885. In my BIOS "xHCI Controller" was the option that needed to be turned off, but the naming might vary. Hope it works for you!

Oh ok, so all I really lose is extra bandwidth through USB. I think I can handle that. Thanks again man. Gonna give this a shot.

Rather than disable USB 3.0 support entirely, can you try running the Ren via a USB 2.0 hub (which in turn is plugged into a USB 3 port)?

It was the wireless! Went into the BIOS and disabled all wireless. I couldn't find any means to disable USB 3.0 in the BIOS. Before WKempton posted his suggestion to kill wifi, I was just using the hot keys on my laptop, which basically disconnected internet access. but not the wireless I guess. Anyway, so after disabling it in the BIOS, I ran an 8 bar loop at 48 kHz for about 15 minutes with no distortion. I like to work in 96 kHz so naturally I chose the lowest possible latency which worked about 5 minutes then the weird distortion trickled in bit by bit again. Increased latency up to 1.3 then tried it again. Let it go for about 15 min with no pops or distortion so far. I'm good with 1.3. I can work with that.

If that disgusting digital distortion returns, I'll let ya know. I haven't been into the Device Manager yet to disable USB 3.0 ports and maybe I won't have to anyway...I hope. I have some good powered hubs but I really only use em for dongles, charging and connecting external drives for moving files. I think it's usually a good idea to plug directly into the laptop/PCs USB port if you can. The shortest direct connection is always the best option i think.

Yeah, no problem! It's still sad that we have to do this kinds of stuff to get things working. But as as technology advances, so does the weird shit that can happen. I still recommend that you dive into your BIOS settings and try to turn the USB 3.0 off, but if everything is working now then great!

What is your buffer setting at?

Well, it came back...It's not possible to disable 3.0 in the BIOS on the laptop, not in the setup menu anyway... It's no longer a problem though. I switched to a laptop that has a 2.0 port and have been working for hours at 96 kHz with 0.7 ms latency with no hiccups at all.
