I registered for this forum just because this thread bothered me...

1) You DO NOT NEED AUDIO "TRACKS" for sidechain compression!

2) What you do need for sidechain compression.

a. VST3 supports sidechain compression via a toggle that makes a secondary input(sidechain) visable to the host which allows you to select it as an aux send or route audio to it in which ever way the host allows.

b. Your host needs to support multiple inputs to a plugin that has sidechain. You then select the sidechain input as an aux send or output your source to that input while the compressor is on an insert for the sound you want to compress.

Any audio signal inluding drum hits from a sampler, vst instruments, or "ANY" audio source that can be routed to the sidechain inputs will do, you do NOT NEED AUDIO TRACKS and it has nothing to do with having a mixer.

All that matters is that the host supports one of the two options listed in number 2 above.

That said... I don't know if MPC Ren supports this but it would be awesome if it does.

Cheers,
Airyck

Any updates on this? This post is from 2012, just wondering if in the last 3 years AKAI has addressed this feature?

I just got the Ren and trying to figure things out.

ok, damn. I guess I'll have to just emulate the effect manually with a volume knob.
