A digital audio workstation (D.A.W.) is an electronic device or computer software application for recording, editing and producing audio files.

Sounds like D.A.W is anything that can record, and edit audio files :)

It's crazy how Maschine and MPC Software lack realtime time stretching in 2015. Maschine is even more mind boggling because Traktor does it real well and Kontak has it.

that shit is bizarre to say the least :hmmm:

Well, technically you're wrong. A DAW emulates a tape machine, strictly speaking. Recording and playing back audio material with the ability to cut and trim material to the needs required.

A sequencer uses controller data (MIDI) to "sequence" various materials and needs expanders/sound modules (like samplers, synths etc.) - which makes it just that.

The terms "DAW" and "sequencer" got blurred nowadays, since most softwares can handle both to varying extents. So technically the MPC is a sequencer with integrated sound modules. It always was, and it probably always will be.

No, technically you are wrong! LMAO! Wtf?! DIGITAL AUDIO WORKSTATION. A station for working with digital audio converted from analog, which is what a sampler does. A "DAW" in the context thrown around today is nothing more than a sampler (like an MPC) with more complex editing features. There is simply absolutely no way you can even attempt to debate this my friend.

Your argument is like saying a DSLR isn't a camera because it doesn't use film or paper negatives! All inventions evolve from something basic into something more complex and diverse.

A digital audio workstation (D.A.W.) is an electronic device or computer software application for recording editing and producing audio files. Stop the bullsh*t and add audio tracks.

I believe the MPC Software simply suffers from an identity crisis - is it a DAW or a sequencer/sampler (like most previous MPCs)? Is it an audio editor? How basic is 'basic', because you can bet that some people will never be happy with 'basic'.

I feel the introduction of audio tracks will firmly set its identity as a DAW, but then the flood gates are well and truly opened as it's never going to compete with the existing mature DAWs, absolutely no chance. Someone mentioned here recently that the MPC seems to have no clear direction, no master plan, that Akai seem to be making up as they go along, and I agree to some extent.

They can't see it, can they?

I think people needing those daw features should ask for PLUG IN stability first.

I think the problem comes from trying to please everybody. So many users want to use MPC, but they all want different things from it. Some want it to be a full blown DAW, while others just want the classic MPC workflow with the power of a computer. Some want to use it within a DAW, others prefer the standalone application. Some want x feature from Ableton, others want y feature from Logic, and others only want features from old MPC's. Then you have those that are just happy with what it currently does and don't want it to change. It's like being married to 8 different women in the same household.

 Your right you can't please everybody. Something to think about though, "time." What, theres 2 guys working on this? How long will it take to hammer out the kinks? It would be better to work out the plug in first. You can have all the DAW features at your fingertips.

Make the MPC Touch, controllers and MPC software solid and efficient.

Oh wait, does this mean 1.9 is stable as an AAX plugin in Pro Tools 10?!?

The hell is this?...I can't get jiggy with this sheeet bro. I may have legacy plug-ins I'd like to use. Taking stuff away is "no bueno"

yeah explain yourself Akai before you take stuff away!

Waiting for 2.0...

I'd love to be able to actually use the hardware to rename things with the data wheel. I like making beats in bed or on the couch and its annoying to have to reach for the laptop everytime regardless of using the mouse or the keyboard. Leaves me with a bunch of projects with "NewSample" filenames that I have to sift through later. I bought this thing to get away from the computer desk but I always have to keep going back to it.

to me sounds like you wanted to buy mpc 2500 but somehow got confused and got the mpc renaissance....all those features you been bugged down by on ren are available on most hardware/legacy mpcs :smoker: mpc2500 will solve all your computer nuisances :P
