Setting Up My 2000XL

Hey everyone! I purchased a MPC 2000XL a week ago, and I finally have the time to set this thing up. Alright before I get into this I just want to say I'm not fully aware of how I'm going to set this up, but I have looked around at videos, and articles so I have a general idea of what to do. Alright so I'm here looking for input on how I should set this up. I've been on Logic Pro X till I recently switched to Ableton, and now I want to set my MPC up with Ableton. The specs for my MPC are is it maxed out with the 32mg, 8 outs, internal zip drive, and full effects board. I purchased a UM-ONE midi interface because the man at my local shop said it's what I needed so I could get this thing up and running. Now I also want to add that I have a focus rite scarlet 2i2 and some yamaha hs50 studio monitors. Now I want to set this thing up, and I know I could set it up to be a MIDI controller, but I'm worried when i'm just running it as slave to the DAW that I'm losing that MPC sound and swing, and that it really has no unique sound anymore. I know I could purchase an external zip drive to usb and set that up, but every where I looked it's like 100$ at least. Anyways I'm looking to set this thing up with everything I have now, and to make sure I get the benefits of the MPC. Thank you!!! Please Help!!!!

Buy yourself a IDE/ATA Compact Flash card reader for your XL and then you can transfer samples to and from your machine that way.

Okay I mean I could do that, but I've heard all these things about CF cards and how you have to get the right kind and blah blah. I would also have to install the CF reader which wouldn't be to easy probably. I just Hoping that there's an easier option than having to install something. I could always just buy a Zip disk to usb device, but I'm not sure if this would still work with ableton and what not.

the zip would work but it will fail on you and you'll be in an even worse position having lost all your backups - avoid zips.
i would advise 100% against slaving the mpc to ableton - if you have to connect them, i would do it the other way around and slave ableton to the mpc.
then you could use the mpc as a sequencer for ableton instruments. you'll use that midi interface for that. here's a tutorial on how to do that with logic - but the concept should be the same viewtopic.php?f=35&t=97274
however, i'd say the best thing to do is to just make what you want on the mpc, completely detached from the computer, then use ableton as just like a tape recorder. you'd use your focusrite to record the audio that way.
so you got options.
the dude that sold you the midi interface probably had no idea why he was selling you that he just saw 'midi' on both the devices and so figured they would work - he is right but its gonna take some work and knowledge on your end.
your next step is to get off the internet, start just trying stuff, and then come back here after you know what works for you and what doesnt.
