been awhile since posting on/checking the forums! this thread has always been the most inspiring as far as functionality as a producer and seeing what people make out of the space/tools they got, so here is I'm contributing with my newest pic of my room, it's always morphing and I'm the type to plug In what I'm using when I use it rather than leaving everything hooked up.. It accessible so I got my rack tower on wheels and and creep around my tables and speakers and deal with everything from the back (: But yeah, it's organized chaos and I still don't know what I'm doing, but still have tons of fun, I work with an sp-303 with a busted effects knob that works with the magic touch(delicately) and no RCA audio but make do with the mic In and headphone jack and still do plenty with that machine. Recently midi'd up the 303 to be triggered by the mpc and made a layout template that puts all the mpc pads in order with the sp's... I'm just rambling tho.. basically I change it up a lot, always experiment and just try to keep it fresh. love tapez and R2R's as well, long walks on the beach of my mind before I hang out some pads etc..

I know i keep spamming this thread, but i change things around a lot recently...

One thing i noticed while i kept expanding my setup and taking it more and more serious: It actually had the opposite effect on my music making: I made less and less music the bigger my setup became. Not good.

I decided my flat is my flat, and not my music studio. I once started out with an MPC500 making music in my living room on the couch. I enjoyed it a lot... have fun and sample some shit while chilling with friends at home. In the end it all felt so serious and like work when i sat in front of my big setup... not like chilling and making music. Also, if you ever used to watch movies and play games on a big projector setup, you really will hate going back to a small flatscreen TV... couldn't live with downsizing my "living room setup".

It all got worse when half of my flat represented a small music studio. I don't like living in a music studio / band room...

I changed back to a very basic setup. Put all my gear in places where it's sort of "stored away" until i need it. I now make small setups that i build up on the go when inspiration hits me. This feels much more like fun again and i also enjoy living in my own four walls again as it now feels again like a flat / living room instead of a music studio. It's a hobby i love, not my job. Sometimes i like to do other stuff for a week or two without touching my music equipment (listening is another topic, i enjoy the heck out of those speakers on a daily basis (also enjoy it more to just sit there and listen to music at a normal table with space to do other stuff, instead of sitting in front of drum machines and a mixing desk)). Forced it for way to long, this feels more appropriate and relaxed again! What a relief!

Still have the Midas mixer, outboard, etc. for when i want to mix and finish something i like.

IMO you need another room just for equipment (mixer,comp etc.). Not that you sit there all the time but to have it set up already when you need it. so the living room is the "fun room" with the SP or MPC and the turntable and the other room is there when you want to mix the tracks.
I'm still a bit envy about your gear.

I agree that would be the best solution. I simply don't have more space / another room. For the moment i really like where i live and the rent is not crazy, so moving is not an option i'd consider anytime soon (can't really afford it either). Life is a compromise...
