mpc 2000 xl

just got the the cf card reader in the mail... to install it am I going to need tne O.S update? cause I read that somewhere, I meant to order the O.S too but I messed up......

IMHO... it doesn't matter what O.S. you use. I've used OS 1.14 and OS 1.2 for internal Zip and SCSI drives. I still use OS 1.14c with my internal SCSI card reader with no problems.
BTW... the OS is FREE from AKAI. No need to purchase it.

ok so I don't need it ...... where could I get it though ? is there a big difference bewtween the two versions ?

well you can download both on the akaipro website and if you have a floppy drive on the mpc, you can put it onto a floppy disk and install it that way.
