External midi controller round robin trigger (JJOS 2XL)

Hi everyone!

I'm sorry if this is an old topic, but i couldn't find it here on forum. I recently started to mess around with making drum and inst programs using velocity layering and round robins. I made a DRUM program using some simple and nice harp samples with 2 RR for each string.

First question is: I can trigger round robin using MPC pads, but i can't trigger round robin with external controller. It only plays the sample assigned to that particular midi note, not the pad itself (so it can't target two pads i guess). Is there a way to trigger round robins with external controller?

Second question: If i make a DRUM program using samples with 3 velocity layers and 2 round robins for each layer, is it possible to assign round robin for each velocity layer or only one layer can use RR/pad?

Third: Is there a way to use velocity layers or RR for inst programs?

Thru velocity layers, both inst and drum will do, but only single filter in inst pgms. or thru PC changes with few versions of program as well, cab be send from separate track than notes, for clean editing

Thnx for the answer but i'm still puzzled a bit. Are you saying that i can trigger different inst program depending on velocity (for example velocity hit from 0 to 30 will play pgm1, hit 31-90 plays pgm2 and 91 to 127 pgm3) or something like that using PC - program change ?

As for the first question regarding triggering pad cycle targets (round robin), this can be done using only mpc pads. External keyboard only triggers midi notes, not the pad itself (i finally found it in jj os2 xl manual). Is there maybe a workaround for external controller to 'play' mpc pads not just the midi notes so the pad cycle mode can do it's magic?

I say that from controller you can trigger sample layers, if velocity range is set. RR is only form pads. Can't you just play off keyboard with different velocity to get various layers? velocity link to volume can be turned off with "velo" parameter, unless you need deep dynamic range for your sounds. It can make light hits v=1 will sound full level. I don't remember 0 or 100 for full effect.

You can also set up a knob or q-link to control velocity during or after recording if you find hitting right velo difficult BTW

With Program change you set up or record random program PC on intervals you want. It will swap programs on selected track automaticaly, no matter which velocity. It just need 1 sample on pad, and few programs. I just program 3 bars of such a PC track (no notes on it) and copy them in 3/4 manner thru the whole beat, so it does not repeat same **** every 4 bars.

I think i get it now! Thanks ! Man, with this machine it takes time to learn it's possibilities. And i only scratched the surface. I'll probably be posting many a questions soon
