Hey all.
I've been running JJOS on my 2500 with 128MB memory and a 120GB hard drive (WD1200BEVE) for years without any issues.

I decided to upgrade to a solid state drive for reliability, no moving parts, and what I hoped would be a performance boost when loading/saving/navigating. I picked up a Zheino 128GB SSD. It's supposed to be decently fast, unless I'm mistaken.
Sustained Read: 116MB/S
Sustained Write: 80MB/S
I formatted it in JJOS and it shows up as 120802MB, which seems normal. Once I tossed some files on it, I noticed some bad performance issues.

Loading, saving, and navigating through the files is MUCH slower than my old drive. Painfully so. When loading a project, it will load a bunch of samples, then stop for a moment as if to take a breath, then load a few more, stop again, load some more...etc.
Also, both the MPC and my PC seem to hang when trying to use the MPC as a storage device. I had to take the drive back out and connect to my PC via a usb adapter just to copy my files. I didn't have these issues with my old WD drive.
Side note, transferring files with the USB adapter was slower than my other drive too. :|

Has anyone else had these issues?

I recently read that the 1000 (not much different than a 2500) gets upset if you use a drive over 80 GB. http://www.wirerealm.com/guides/best-ha ... i-mpc-1000
"we’ve found that although some hard drives of 120 GB capacity can work with the MPC, they can be a bit laggy at times and cause some inconvenience."
Perhaps I should get a smaller drive. Perhaps I should go with a different brand. I have about 60G of samples, and it'd be really cool if I could drop all of them into my MPC.

I'm wondering if JJOS formats drives to fat32 using some kind of "quick format" method, since it doesn't take long to do. I'm reformatted my SSD to fat32 using my PC, which took forever, which I'm pretty sure is normal, but then it failed since fat32 can only utilize 120GB. Formatting, again, with the MPC yielded the same results as the first time.
If anyone has had this issue, please chime in. Especially if you managed to fix it.
Also, if anyone has successfully installed a 128GB SSD and isn't having any slow/lag issues, let the rest of us know what you did and what kind of SSD drive you are using.

I really want to like this drive, but so far it's not working out. I have 7 days to return it, before I'm stuck with keeping it. Any help/info will be appreciated.

FYI: my current JJOS is JJOS128XL 1.62

Any luck fixing it ? Been looking at SSD drives thinking would be quicker to transfer but saw this

Unfortunately not. I wish I knew if it was the drive size being over 120G or the brand. Not sure if I should return this and try a 64GB Zheino, or try another 128 made by another brand.

Has anyone else tried using a Zheino SSD?

Has anyone tried an SSD larger than 64 or 128GB?

Any help, anyone?

Maybe try the 64 GB Zheino SSD. FWIW, I have a 32 GB Zheino PATA SSD in my MV-8800 and it´s working fine. Will definitely try one of these in my 2500...

If your 32 GB Zheino PATA SSD is working, then it must be the size that's causing the lag. I still wonder if any SSD over 64GB works without lag.

When shopping for drives (or anything) on ebay, here's something to look out for. I bought the drive from a "US seller". It arrived with the a US P.O Box return address. When I asked to return it for a smaller size, the guy was real nice about it and told me to mail it back and he'd give me a refund. Ebay gives you a set of instructions to follow for making returns. I had never tried to return something before. The address I needed to send the drive to, in order to return it, to was in China! The post office said it would cost nearly $50 to mail it to China! We're talking about a small package weighing less than 5oz. That's hardly worth it, for something I payed $92 for. I'm guessing it's a China shop with warehouses in the US. Looks like I'm going to have to eat this drive.

That's the thing. I'm currently using a 120GB WD1200BEVE hard drive (not solid state), and it doesn't lag at all.

just bought a 32 GB Zheino PATA SSD and mounted it on my MPC 1000 running JJOS2XL 3.51 with no luck :?
tried to switch to the free JJOS in the hope it was an operating system fault

I basically have all the same issues reported by Alpha303...

from lags in reading/saving to miscommunication with my mac ! I have no more chance to use the MPC as a storage device via usb so, I guess it's not about the SSD size

maybe there's incompatibility between Zheino's products and the MPC PATA interface

been trying first a PATA to CF adapter and then internally mounted a 64Gb Kingston 266x Compact Flash card (as shown in a youtube tutorial) but had some other problems because of memory incompatibility

both the Zheino SSD and the Kingston CF card work fine on the mac :WTF:

hope this helps
