Why not? I would. Aside from the kick, I love this. But I'm very particular with my kicks :-D

nice. thanks for the feedback. the kick is not knocking enough, right? it's a dmx sample, and now I'm thinking I should have layered it with something that has a little more low.

You got it! I could hear the DMX hats as well, not my fave but they work for this track.

Somewhat shameless self-promo, but it is Deep House & I did make it on the 2K...

I participated in the Whosampled Samplethon a couple weeks ago. Was mad cool. I was the only head there with a 2K, or anything older than a 2500. I was also the only guy doing House there. Here's the track I made:

I really like this. You are saying that this was done with only MPC-2000 and samples from Bruton Music? I really want to know how this was done.

Thanks man! Yeah that's correct, just a 2K & Bruton samples (and some drums from my library... sadly Bruton didn't release any 909 records!).

As far as how I did it... no magic to it really. Just chopped, arranged, filtered & layered as necessary. I did a tiny bit of pre-processing on the computer, but really not much at all. I think I pre-filtered the bassline, sampled it, then filtered it some more on the 2k. Because I have the 2k Classic, I have to time-stretch on the computer, but I didn't do any time stretching at all on this track.

I knew this would good, such skill to get this done on the 2k. Excellent work my man.

I recently acquired a mixer to use with the 8 outs on my 2kxl. It has opened up a new workflow for me. Being able to eq and do live arrangements is awesome. I started and finished a track on the day I got it. That's a record for me. I'm gonna add a multi fx unit to utilize with the aux sends and then I'm done, no more equipment. Haha maybe just upgrade my monitors at some stage.

Thanks man yeah all 2k!

I actually learned something new doing this track (which I didn't think was possible). I'm sure it's a common trick, but I guess just something I never thought I'd need. I figured out how to fake filter sweeps with just the 2k. The main sample was divided on 4 pads, and I basically used a 2nd program with filter envelopes that progressively got larger. It's not perfect, but a decent way to fake it. I'd still rather do it with a rack sampler, but this would do in a pinch.

Thanks Wallace!

Yeah the mixer vibe is the one really man. Great amount of flexibility & of course the ability to use to high-quality FX, and like you said do on-the-fly arrangements. Wish I had the space for a rig like that, but for now I'll have to keep on single-tracking things.

Post up some stuff you're working on! :-D

nanapashamet wrote:very classy track sems and thanks for the fake filter sweep tip. here's something I completed recently in one take out of the board.
a couple of samples but mainly the 2500 sequencing a drum machine and some synths.

I get sent a lot of demos and promos and skip through them. Yours I listened to the whole thing and really enjoyed it, those beats and bass are great. Bravo man :worthy:
