JJOS Onboard FX

I've been using a lot of the On Board FX on my 1000 to enhance my beats and was curious to how you guys felt about em. I record straight into Logic X with my 6 outs but I feel like the On Board Plugins (outside of EQ and Reverb) fit my sound a lot more.

I really like the Bit Crusher and honestly think it adds that extra Lo-fi feel sort of reminiscent of the SP1200 but not quite. I use the delay here and there and love the Master Compressor. The only effect I'm not super into is the reverb but Im not much of a Reverb User anyway.

Just curious to what you guys thought about them and how/if you use them?

I sold my 1000 a few years ago. But I used to use the effects all the time. The bit crusher is cool. I always used the master compressor, and I also used the delay quite a bit with my x0xb0x running through the input. I used the reverb along with the delay too. I never felt the need to use the effects in my DAW, and I was happy to do it all within the MPC. The only thing I didn't like was that the effects couldn't be assigned to the individual outputs like the MPC2000.

Think of creative vs corrective effects. If you like how the onboard effects sounds and use them in a creative way stick with it, but you might find that using DAW plugins when tracking out and mixing the beats are better for applying corrective effects. Then again you can also apply creative effects using plugins in a DAW or even with an external effects unit. Personally I use the onboard effects for mostly creative reasons, but leave the corrective side to the DAW (eq, compression, etc.)

I use the reverb a bit to add tail to some sounds if they sound cut off too much
The bit crusher is great
My main issue is the delay, I am spoiled with awesome analog and tape delay emulators both in pedal and plugin form and the mpc delay is terrible by comparison
Once I get my mixer that will no longer be an issue thanks to the multi outs!

Usually I use only the compressor for kick and snare(fx1=kick comp, fx2=snare comp.) I got Roland Vp-9000 hooked up to my mpc1000 via spdif for effect processing (Bit rate converter effect on that machine is f---ing awesome, btw). After recording the tracks to Cubase I do the proper mixing with eq, compressors, delays, reverbs etc. I use mostly Waves plugins.
