anyone use a numark ttusb with their xl?

i have been trying to get my drums to knock. i know how, but i think my turntable is the problem. my ttusb has phono preamp built in so i use that to go from turntable rca to mpc and the problem im noticing is its still not loud enough. it can get to a decent volume and eventually distort so its loud enough, but the record knob is more then half way up. its just not good enough. when i think the signal is good i'll record into the mpc and then try to get the drums to knock. i hear more punch in the kick, but i feel its just not there as far as clarity. seems like its dull. now before i thought this may be due to not having a turntable mixer to eq before sampling or that i just need to mix on the computer. now after today im realizing it may be the phono preamp. regular samples are fine, but i think clarity isnt there as far as sonics go.

anyone using the same turntable and getting the same results? i may just get a turntable mixer so i can have eq and a better phono preamp. i could also do usb and get good results, but idk. what do you think?

just tried on my zoom sampletrak and it was pretty low with record and volume knob all the way up. it was good enough, but i think thats why my drums arent hitting. im thinking about just getting a dj mixer. should i?

Those built in pres won't be up to scratch compared to a decent dj mixer. Also are you using a good cartridge and headshell combo?

I had a TTusb for a while. It's alright for sampling purposes, but u need to replace the cartridge with an Ortofon or similar.
