Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

jpeg you say there is no lag but in the image that appears in the video you posted, in the preview image before clicking play you can see his finger in one point of the screen and the marker way behind?
Thos samplekings videos are wack. I could make 2 billion tutorials like that, I know cos I bought the ren ones years back and I was like "What?" Now those are not tutorials to go 1 by 1 of the buttons of the hardware and say nothing. Tutor's are real tutorials and lessons.

The marker behind the finger is, I believe, by design, so that your finger doesn't obscure the marker when you're trying to accurately place it on the waveform.

Got news for you... The MPC Touch is as dope as £#%&.

Dope as f*ck?

Only until the next flagship MPC is released, then it'll be a side-thought :smoker:

Just like most anything.

So, I repeat; it' dope, and a great piece of hardware. The workflow on the second screen is really well considered, and makes working with samples a real pleasure.

I don't doubt it is "dope" but not for me at the moment. those visual lags would drive me crazy, cos I'm like that.
And as I said I am waiting for a bigger unit. If that's not happening I'll stay with my ren. Imma sell the studio to a friend.

Well, "Imma" suggest that you get your hands on one, before you continue spreading misinformation about a problem that isn't a problem for folks that actually own and use the hardware.

Anyway, anyone I've heard from that has one loves the Touch. All the skepticism comes from the speculators.

All I'm trying to impart.

The topic is a question; "Is the Touch's lag that bad?"

But the answers stream in from owners, unanimously saying "No. In practice, it's not an issue". But it seems like the TC already had his opinion firmly in place.

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll see if I can make a mini review that focuses on the issue (or non-issue) of lag, although I might just leave it until the full review which I hope to be live early next week. In the meantime it sounds like this topic has now run its course, so we'll lock it up for the moment.

Okay, the Touch is up and running over here a MPC-Samples HQ. Literally just finished installing and of course first thing I've checked out is the apparent lag in Sample Edit.

First impression leads me to say that I'm with icepulse on this in that it isn't actually 'laggy' as such.

Basically if I move my finger 10mm to the left, the marker immediately moves 10mm to the left. However I would say that it something isn't quite 'there' yet but it's hard to pin point. But it doesn't seem to be a screen responsiveness issue at all, the whole interface is quick and responsive.

Rather than 'laggy', I'd be tempted to describe the feeling when moving a marker as a little 'floaty'. I suspect this is by design, there's probably a usability reason for it. Would be interesting to see a preferences option to play around with this setting though.

However that said, there's no problem moving the marker to the position you want,so I don't see it being an issue.

XYFX also has float which is a bit more pronounced - if you start moving your finger rapidly the cursor is definitely playing catch up. But again, this does seem by design rather than any kind of inherent responsiveness issue, this just seems all about the eye candy factor. And again, it isn't impacting the workflow - if you want to do a hi to low sweep, you just move your finger from top to bottom.

I've not really done much else yet, but overall I'm so far more impressed than I thought I was going to be.

BTW, build quality of the body is nice and chunky, and the pads seem excellent, very responsive, but really show up dust and dirt.

The rubber buttons are meh (as expected), qlinks fine, the data wheel feels a bit hollow but is adequate, screen is a fingerprint magnet.

I'll get cracking on the full review.

Haha, I couldn't resist the GAS and bought one today in my local store, since i'm waiting for my op-1 to arrive and needed something to kill the pain.
I am trying it right now, and have to say that my fears wher not founded. The little laginess is not a problem at all. even for my picky eyes. great unit I'm going to keep it.
I have the same impresions as you tutor. Also I have to point out that the pads are way better than the rens, but I've tried a mpd232 in the store and those were even better for my taste, more soft. I thought they would be tha same, but it didn't appear to me as such, i might be wrong.
As said i'm goint to keep the ren too and sell the studio. The touch will be my movable mpc from nowe on.

Interesting thought Andy, I think you may be on to something here with the "usability reason"

Welcome to the dark side TT :)

Once you get on to the workflow, I bet you will like it even more.

Had mine a month, got a buyer for my Machine Studio, life is good.

Actually scratch what I said earlier, I've pinpointed the actual problem here. Basically if you drag the marker slowly, then no issue. However if you drag quickly, the maker cannot keep up with your finger. Drag quickly and stop your finger dead in its tracks and the marker carries on moving for half a second. It's clearly playing catch up.

If you do the same thing in the computer GUI using your mouse, the marker stays tight with the mouse cursor all the time, so it's definitely a Touch UI issue. I assume it's still doing it during slow movements, but of course it's not noticeable as the lag is no doubt proportional to the speed of the drag.

Is it a practical issue? Not really because no one is ever going to try to make accurate edits at high speed, you'll always naturally slow down for that final edit, so realistically you don't have a problem getting the marker where you want it. But visually it does make the UI feel laggy/floaty, so ideally it will get addressed in a future update.

I'll make some video for the full review.

BTW I also find that sometimes 'double tap' on a parameter does not bring up the option/number pad screen. Seems a bit erratic.
