Question about the trim mode

Hi guys...while on the trim page, is it possible to select the samples you're trying to trim by hitting the pads they're assigned to? I know 60 and 3000 can do this, but i'm pretty sure you have to use the jog wheel on the 4k, which kinda sucks and stops you from auditioning the chops really quickly.

I have always hit the pads before I enter that mode.

So you just drop out of the trim mode, press the pad you want to edit next, then go back to trim mode?

I wouldn't do it that way if I was you. We have a different workflow. I don't chop them all up at the same time like that, lucky habit I picked up.

Its a good question, maybe one of these guys work that way and can explain some methods.


Basically, anytime I want to enter a mode, I would hit the pad I edit beforehand.

trim mode works per sample, no ?
so there is no need to select the sample before (going into trim mode)...
i use pad A11->A16 to play (from) sample start and (to) sample end points so i can adjust the trim points...

Here's what i'm trying to do...let's say I sampled a for 4 bar loop, assign that sample to 4 different pads, go to trim page and set the start/end points of the first pad, then without leaving the trim page, hit the second pad and start editing start/end points... but i see now that there is no way to do this on the 4k.

I've been thinking about buying a MPC and 4000 really seems like a perfect standalone sampler, this is basically the only feature it lacks.

aha, you didn't mentioned you were chopping ONE sample...
if in chop mode (per one sample!) , you can audition the slices from the same pad by going through/selecting the slice (1->32 and back) in question

from the user manual:
1. In Sample mode, press the [F3] key (REGION).
The Region page will appear, where you can edit the sample in region units.
A Sample field: Selects the sample that will be
edited.
B Sampling rate/Bit field: Indicates the sampling
rate and bit depth of the sample shown in
(1).
C View field: Selects the waveform that will be
displayed; LEFT (left channel only), RIGHT
(right channel only), or MIX (both channels
mixed).
D Monitor field: Selects either SAMPLE,
PROGRAM, or MULTI as the unit for monitoring.
E Region start field: Specifies the starting
location of the currently selected region (the
region start point) in units of one sample.
F Region end field: Specifies the ending location of the currently selected region (the region end point)
in units of one sample.
G Waveform display field (upper): Displays all regions. The currently selected region will be highlighted.
H Region field: Specifies the region to be edited by number.
I Waveform display field (lower): According to the field that is currently selected in the display, this
area shows the waveform before and after the region start point, or before and after the region end point.
You can zoom-in/out the display in this field by holding down the [SHIFT] key and using the BLOCK
CURSOR [π]/[†] keys

Lets say i'm trying to rearrange the sample and hear how the region 8 sounds after the region 1, i'd pretty much have to go through regions 2 through 7 with the jog wheel, before i could audition the region #8?! But on the Maschine or even the 60/3000 it's as simple as just hitting the pad you want to hear.

The 4000's editing interface and sonic architecture is different from the MP60, 60II & 3000, which has adjusted segments of our collective workflow.

If you're in TRIM MODE and you want to navigate through REGIONS, then you can...

1. Cursor to the region number field, type the desired region # on the number pad then press enter (which increases your digit speed)

or

2. Use the jog wheel as you mentioned earlier in the thread
