Is the Touch's lag that bad?

That's what I saw in the image I posted in the OT, the guy was moving the finger fast.
Anyway the unit is feeling very good here. And it is actually faster than the studio and in some places faster than the Ren. And man I love those pads. The jump between buttons (studio) and touch is done quite smoothly. Although I fail to understand why akai did't bring whole features to the touch, such as expansion browser and a plugin window ala V-control and save etc. It is a touch screen I have my finger as a mouse, At least letme browse the expansions that you include with the MPC dammit!

Yes you can access them like this, but for example the Araab pack in the computer GUI is organised into category sub folders (Clap, Snare, Kick etc) to make it easy to browse the samples. This isn't happening in the Touch UI, so I've got a list of around 900 samples to scroll though and the interface isn't allowing me to 'flick' quickly through them, it's very slow and clunky here. Definitely needs to be fixed, I'm going to submit a feature suggestion about this tonight.

Definitely could do with a proper expansion browser, with pack images and all the (albeit limited) features of the full expansion browser. But the entire expansion browser itself (in the computer GUI) currently needs ALOT of work IMO, they need to be looking at the Maschine browser for inspiration.

We have a color hi res screen now on the mpc, I want to see images. And of course real time search and categories etc, but that's another petition, but for **** shake how can they give us an expansion browser feature and not implement it on the "beautifull" 7" screen?
Why can I do and buy expansions with images and categories and have to browse like old windows explorer from the unit?

Like I said! Once you have one, the benefits and workflow wash away any fears that the Touch isn't a top-choice piece of kit.

Wait'll you get your head around that OP-1 workflow, TT. You'll want to CrazyGlue the unit to your hands.

Don't make the same mistake a lot of folks made that got an OP-1, couldn't see past the limitations inherent to the tech during the initiation phase, and return it before you've got your head around it. Give yourself time to get comfortable with the shortcuts and overall workflow. Once you're a natural w/ that, you'll dance around those limitations like a cat in a sloth pen.

I returned an SP-404 after realizing that, despite its larger sample time / storage, it's totally inelegant vs. that little OP-1. I can turn out 5 tracks w/ the OP in the time it takes me to nail a decent sequence on the 404.

I also sold my Maschine Studio (Ebay) stumbled upon a deal (Ebay) for an MPC Touch that I couldn't pass up. Seller listed it for $625 or Best Offer. I offered $575, he countered with $600 with free shipping. I jumped on it. It was in new condition. I love it! I had the Ren, loved the workflow but the only thing I didn't like was the small screen. The Touch solves that problem and is fun to use. I also picked up a used MPC Element to use while on the go. Now that iMPC Pro has MPC desktop export it is a great companion to the Touch. My dream portable setup consists of the Ipad, MPC Element, OP-1 and battery powered Crosley turntable. One thing I just thought about trying is sampling wirelessly to the OP-1 from the Crosley using the FM transmitter. Hmmmmmmm....

I've had the Touch for 5 days and in that time I've realised it's not for me. I haven't read all the previous posts so apologies in advance if I'm repeating any issues below.

Build quality is great, screen is great, sequencer work flow is great but its simply not ready and there is not enough readily available info as to when or if the issues I've encountered will be resolved. Plus I found I was using my Mac far too much for my liking.

Here's a few issues I've had:

When scrolling through plug in presets the audio drops out, badly. Not acceptable.

It's crashed out on me for no apparent reason 4 times and lost my work with no backup facility upon reopening.

No way to automate sample start times other than assigning Velocity to Start on a q link which is limiting as you cant hear the sample at low values. In 2016 an MPC should be a lot more 'modular' and modulation routings and destinations should be relatively unlimited.

When sampling, you can't exit sampling mode to record live changes from any other mode without stopping sampling. Very limiting. I don't always want to sequence everything first before I record.

Once again Akai create a promising but limiting piece of kit that is clearly still not fully capable or stable.

I packed it up this evening and switched on my 5000 and had myself a good time!

I submitted all the above issues plus a few more to Akai support.

Poised to return it if I don't get a response from Akai before Friday.
