The reason probably is that you didn't hook it up properly. It's in the manual too.

doesn´t it work at all? - or does it play the samples, but doesn´t pitch them according to the keys you play?

the mpc is the sequencer. are you setting up the midi channels correctly?

The 2000 doesn't have auto chromatic assignment. It would take some time but you could create a program and individually tune each pad to get the same result.
