For the last five hours I've been messing around with my mpc2000xl and having the time of my life but about an hour ago when I browes a few folders and load some drums my Mpc freezes. It displays a whole bunch of numbers followed by letters and numbers. I turn it off and on and begin to load some drums from a different folder and it will not freeze but when I start to explore the same folders as before it freezes up again. I came here looking for help and triedout some recommendations. I bought from someone in craigslist who might of forgot that he had a Shit load of kits on his sd card. I opened the case to clean out its ram and discovered that it has a 64mb memory card. This mpc has os 1.20. What is going on. Please help

If all other drums/folders work fine, I'm guessing the drum sounds have just been corrupted somehow. Most likely, you'll just need to delete that folder

Can you open/listen to these sounds on your computer?

The whole kit on that folder works on my computer. Today I played with my Mpc for a little over 3 hours without scrolling near that folder and it never froze on me. Does it make a difference if a 64mb ram chip is installed when it's max on the mpc is 32mb?

but i believe 64mb will work - it just wont access the rest of it.

whatever the case, it doesn't matter. it sounds like your ram and/or disk are failing somewhere.

You guys are the best. I went ahead and purchased the ram from eBay. I've been trying to make beats for the last two days and I keep getting stuck with sampling, saving and matching what I sampled to a dorm beat that I creat. The bpms never seem to match when I play on the tracks in the sequence.
