Lazy Chop vs. Quick Chop or Smart Chop

Just a note to AKAI--who I previously suggested be careful of your marketing (see early stereotyped MPC Ren promo videos):

The Lazy Chop feature is such a wonderful addition in your software and I am sure that many love to use it daily. But, the word "lazy" has such negative connotations. I know that it is too late now, but try to use positive words to uplift your products in the future. "Quick Chop" or "Smart Chop" would have described the feature while maintaining the level of dignity that your product and its users deserve.

You are right, it looks like the beta testers called it lazy chop when 1.8 was released and Akai went with it afterwords.

I agree! Lazy chop is a bad name choice. It should be called quick, smart, advanced, or live chop.

Loving the "lazy" name! Pretty hip hop to me.

I get why they called it that, but it's a cultural thing. that word, over here in the US, still carries strong racial undertones. Over here, if you call an African American lazy, you may very legitimately be referring to their lack of effort. The undertone though, is that you're stereotyping because they're African American, and "all African Americans are lazy". It's an insulting stereotype over here. When you consider the hip hop culture, the name "lazy chop" is going to annoy some people. Heck when I first heard them say it, my immediate thought was "what a bad name choice".

I don't think LAZY means anything super positive anywhere, but damn.
I for one put plenty of work in during the week, but when I make beats, I love to get lazy as heck whenever I can!

Stereotype aside (although it has merit), you do not want "lazy" to be the word associated with your music or production work ethic. I would never think of the individuals who use MPC's to create as lazy--I have to much respect for you all!

Definition of Lazy:

: not liking to work hard or to be active
: not having much activity : causing people to feel that they do not want to be active
: moving slowly

This is a professional product. The words used to describe it's functions should be the same.

Maybe they should have went with "slacker" chop?
