Samples with same name. Advice sought.

Hi,

I got a synth with no patch memories and I'm making multi samples of it.

I thought I'd be clever and call all samples the same name and only name the programs different. The idea being I'd I made one "key disc" pgm then i could assign the samples that are always the same (c and f sharp).

This worked fine and I quickly built up a few programs All with different multisampled sets of my synth but all with the same name.

Of course as your all way cleverer than me you will realise if I load a few programs together they all over write each other. Even tho they are kept in different folders on my cf card once in ram there all in the same place and they can be only one as per computer law.

Has anyone got a workaround or care too share how I can go about sampling in future?

I really do not want too have too make a new program each multi set.

Use something like Bulk Rename Utility to add individual pre- or suffixes to the filenames. Then do yourself a favor and acquire the wonderful JJOS where you can automate the process of building multisample instrument programs...

i would have sampled each synth in one recording...........so all notes in one sample.
save that as for example "synth 1" and THEN chop it up and create a program. you get it named from the parent.

Saves a lot of hassle, have done this many times with bass guitar.

What I was trying to do here is avoid ever having to make more than one program.

So, I make the program one with all samples assigned perfectly and spread over the chromatic pad arrangment.

Then, seems as I always sample two notes per octave, I have one program that can be used to many many diffrent synth patches that I choose to multi sample later.

So, if I name all my samples the same. Say my first set of samples for this program is a bass instrument. but stick to the same names I later use for my Lead instrument all I have to do is dump the new lead instrumens samples into a new folder and then copy the program across and the bass program copy will still reference the Lead samples as there the same name.I simply rename the program too lead and keep everything is seperate folders.

Now, I get the above doesnt work but the only other way to make muti samples is a right pain.

Reason I ask here is incase anyone has come up against this before.

It took me ages to drop the right samples on the right pads as multi samples as you all know are much better suited to a keyboard anyhow. Then I had to tune the pads inbetween in and down a few half steps and such and making this one program took for ever. .

I get I can save the program and drop diffrent samples onto it but thats a lot work also.

Sometimes when your experimenting with such things someone has been here before and they see something you have totally over looked.

If the only way here is to spend 30 mins scratching my head as I drop samples to pads and rename everything Ill stick to a rack sampler. I do understand the MPC was never ment to be used this way. But I am very diffrent to the typical gearslut! I prefer less kit not more. If my MPC can replace my S6000 than great. But if not then ill stick as is as it justifies having the S6000.

I dont know about JJOS. Yes I know what it is and have the free one thats pretty much the Akai one without the bugs.

Can I get the for my 2500? Can you still get it.

I know everyone bangs on about jjos but I've always been put off due to no manual and the extra complexity.

What is the least feature laden version that features this automatic multi sample assign. Can anyone please tell me.

That would be OS2, with reference to the JJOS comparison chart.

Thanks. Seems OS2 is now no longer updated and even though you can still buy it its costs the same as the XL version.

As such is there any point of OS2?

Ah, not to worry. Tried out the JJOSXL. Tried out the page explaining how too automatically set up multis - Bliss!

So now I'm £90 shorter but all my problems gone away re multi sampling. Selling my S6000 if anyone wants it.

Never thought the day would come when I didn't have a beige box akai in my rack. Been a user since 80s with s900. Then s1000 then 3000xl

But then again i never thought I'd not have an Atari st and my
MPC replaced that too.

I personally think the 2500 is an amazing box. People bang on about the 60 and 3000. There ok if you use them with a daw. But for a hardware only guy like me who hates computers I couldn't be without the features of my 2500.

And now I bought osxl I'd imagine once I get the hang of it you could multiply that statement by ten.
