How are you using your MPC?

Hi guys,

Ive spent the past week hard setting up my MPC Studio, both just with its own software and syncing to cubase 8 and ableton 9

I am just trying to justify keeping the machine, by that i mean OK I can sync it ableton or other DAW, I can use it as a controller to a DAW, I can set up Ableton as a sound module etc etc etc..

But I an struggling to think why I need it?

When I can easily play in loops or phrases to a DAW directly with a keyboard, and why would i record all my patterns and sequences on the MPC, and sync it to a DAW when I can more easily just play those seq etc in to the DAW directly?

Maybe i am missing something, dont get me wrong the mpc is fun to play and pehaps i get some slightly unusual phrases and ideas from using it, but perhaps someone can explain their own experinces?

I decided to sell o my MPC Studio, I did get to know it in side out and especially connecting to Ableton. A great device if your are a non musician I think.

But as a keys player of 20 years, there was not use for me, its really just a controller to trigger sounds already in the PC/Mac. So Im going with an Akai APCmini or APC40 Mk2, as that does a simple triggering of ableton job very well.

I stil highly recomend any MPC for producers or non musicans who dont have skills on the keys, and its just hitting pads which takes a lot less time to master than 88 keys and 10 fingers!

That's the reason I've sold my last hybrid MPC ( Ren ) yesterday

I just couldn't justify it any longer. When I'm creating something inside the DAW I don't need the MPC Controller/Software combo, there are already thousands of plugins out there ( not to mention the plugins which already come with the most DAWs today ) with good and cheap controllers.

And standalone? Hmmm.... the oooold and ever recurring question!

If I want to create something without the computer I simply go back to my trusty 4000, that's real standalone and I'm not distracted by the computer ( and it's endless possibilities ).

And if I want to create something with the computer I don't need a ( hybrid ) MPC.

Don't get me wrong: I do no want to start another standalone/hybrid/computer debate, that's just how I work.

Maybe keep the Studio a few more weeks and see how often you really make use of it. If you feel it's just a distraction or you think you have to use it because you paid for it get rid of it. I did.

being too long mpc head and I don t wanna change my workflow.
I 've not a problem with hybrid grooveboxes. the mv8800 had had monitor connection and a fan. the 4000 boots up like a pc and has a noisy fan.
we'll don t know if that's a common problem but if I had to choose a hardware mpc I would choose the 2500 with fat pads.

How much easier can it get than hitting play and rec and playing keys?

I haven't seen a better option to chop things up fast.

You got the wrong one. Mpc touch or no controller.
