HDD/CD Conflict

hey folks,

i used to use a 2,5" hdd inside my mpc 2500 se, along with the cd drive and everything worked fine. now i bought an ide to cf adapter, and inserted a 64gb cf card in it to replace my hdd. there was no problem to format the "hdd", saving and loading works fine. but when i was testing to load up files from cd, i cant choose the drive anymore. not in the load screen, and not in sampling mode. im using jjosxl, the cd drive is the original one from akai and the cf2ide adapter is set to master. the cf card is an adapter for sd cards, that combination worked fine for me over the last years throught the cf card slot on the front.

is there something i forgot? any ideas?

hello!

the mpc manual says on page 122 (installation of a harddisk) to remove all jumpers from a harddrive so i assume you have to do the same with your cf2ide adapter.
just remove the jumper so it is not longer seen as master and the cd-drive should be show up again.

thanks, but this wont work. already tried that one out. its the same in slave as master. the "hdd" works, the cd drive not. removed the hdd, cd drive works again. hmmmm


update:

i tried to solder on a small wire to force master mode (read that on using an ssd hdd inside the mpc). the same result, "hdd" works fine, cd drive is useless then.

was anyone successful with that combination?

did you try removing the master/slave jumper at all?
i didn´t tell you to jumper the sd2ide adapter as slave - i told you that the manual says to remove any jumpers from harddrives.

just try it without any jumpers and see if that works.

the only time when there is a need to change something is the pin mod on the cd-drive if you want to use a third party cd/dvd-drive and not the original akai dvd-drive.

what advantage do you want to gain with using this cf2ide adapter and a sd/cf-card over just using a regular harddrive? as price and storage capacity are still better for hdd the only advantage i see is that there are no moving parts in it.

edit: if that still doesn´t work, then your alternative os may be the problem - go to the other subforum and ask if anybody has the same problem as you have.

yes i tried it with all jumpers removed (there is only one jumper, jumpered for master, unjumpered for slave). tried the hardwire "force-master" method because everything else didnt work. removed the hardwire again, because the result is the same.

yeah, you are right, its because of moving parts and fast storage with easy swapping media.

Yo, did this ever get sorted as I am having similar issues? My HDD isn't working & now my CD drive is causing my 2500 to crash & freeze.
I don't know much about jumpers & ting so Im hoping it might just be that instead of a dying MPC.

So the cd and hard disk work fine when the cf card isn't inserted ?

On mine it crashes regardless of weather the CF card is in or not.

If you havent got the original akai cd drive you may have to cutoff (push in) one of the pins on the connector to force master/slave mode.

I don't have the original Akai CD drive but my hard drives crashes when the CD drive isn't installed.
Iv tried several hard drives to the same effect. That's why Im thinking it could be the HDM-10?
Anyone ever heard of a faulty one? Iv tried cleaning it.
