midi input channel not showing up ??

sorry if this has been covered, I couldn't find it in a search -

i am trying to set the midi channel input for a drum machine to control a keyboard coming out of midi-out b. all i can seem to do is get it to trigger samples, which I don't want. I am noticing a big difference between the manual and what I actually am seeing on the machine, in regards to doing this:

Hmmm, this seems like something I should be able to help with because I've been doing a lot of recording the last few weeks with a bunch of different gear and MIDI channels and having to get everything set up accordingly, but I'm not sure lol...when you say it only plays samples, you mean samples on the MPC, right? On the main recording screen, is your track set to "MIDI" instead of "Drum" and set to the MIDI channel you want to record on? And your drum machine and synth are both set to the same MIDI channel as one another and the MIDI channel you have the track set to?

forget that screen, forget that manual page, scroll down to where it says 'DRUM1' or 2/3/4, spin the wheel and change that to midi. one click to the right and you can set the midi channel.
also double check your multi-timbral settings, and make sure your soft-thru is set right - i believe you want 'as track'.

ok, so I'm not sure if the drum machine's midi out was working, so I am removing it from the equation to make this simpler.

I have Yamaha psr-225gm keyboard, with both the midi input and output plugged in to the mpc. I am trying to record a track of midi notes to trigger a bassline out of the keyboard. When I play the keyboard it triggers the drum program samples in the mpc even though I have the track set to midi 1B. when i play back what I record, it is just the drum program samples and not the keyboard.

is the midi out plugged into output B?
move your cursor over to the far left (the 'm' next to 'midi' and hit open window), see what you it says in there.
i believe by default that says s, not m. you can try rotating it to s too.
my guess is you've set the mpc up in multitimbral mode and you don't really need that.
also - you can simplify further for testing...unplug the keyboard midi into the mpc, and just try to compose a sequence using the mpc pads. then you can at least know mpc->keyboard works and go step by step from there.

yes, the out is from B. The funny thing is, when I change previously composed (w the mpc pads) rhythms from DRUM to MIDI it plays through the keyboard with no mpc samples, yet when I record rhythms using the keyboard as the controller, it plays the mpc samples no matter what the DRUM/MIDI setting
