Data Wheel on MPC2000XL

Is it just me or does the wheel break down about twice a year? And is there a way to get around without it. ( like switching the device from scsi to floppy or setting your 8 outs in the mixer )

This ish is wack!

I've had the XL since it was first released and the data wheel has never broken. And it is not for a lack of babying it since it has been out on numerous gigs and banged a bit.
