can someone help me with mic seting up for acapellass?

im having trouble. i have a behringer UB1002 mixer, its a cheapy, but its only for MPC, turntable, mic

i have no idea how to set up to record acapellas. idealy i'd like it so you can hear the vocals and beat through the headphones, yet only the beat gets recorded.

i have my beata on my computer, and i record on the same computer. i played with the settings so whats going out doesn't come back in, to avoid feedback.

previously, all i did was record my vocals with the beat in the backround, the mic barley picked it up, plus when you mix the beat in later you'd never know. it actually helped blend the vocals with the beat, didn't sound dry, and the quality is surprisingly alright. but now i want to bump it up a bit and do it proper now, so im trying to figure it out, and its driving me beserk. i can never get the right setup!!!

the closest i can get:

mic-> mixer in, computer-> mixer in, beat& vocals -> headphones, vocals to mixer out to computer.

but still in this case, the way i have it, i cant play with the beat level or turn up the mic, no way to independently turn each channel up, cause they both go up together. an di fyou turn the dials up, they actually record out louder which doesn't make sense to me, theres gotta be a way to just turn the sound up without the output going up?

i dont know how to really explain it, but any pointers are appreaciated,

id imagine in the studio a channel with each input, and then you can decide from the mixer which go out to headphones or speakers or to mix or to record etc...

again any help is appre4aciate.

use the alt 3/4...u have to route the signal...also u have toset your computer softwear to record.....insure that u r getting a good signal first

Route the Vox out the 3/4 mix, to the Audio in on the Computer. you could also try sending the Beat thru an Aux Pre Fader, That way the MC would hear it and it wouldn't go out the Stereo Bus. You would just have to figure out how to listen to it all with that mixer.

you nailed it man, that exactly what i need, i cant be doing this switch back and fourth from computer ish. im so comfused this stuff is hard to figure out

--- also, dj mack, i have my computer setup to record. im getting a very good >silent< signal, very low noise, no interference, no hiss. well very little hiss, but thats from the mixer. very good connection, im happy with it.

What Program are you using on the Computer?

Do you have good inputs on your Soundcard or Computer interface?

I don't see any way to make the Beat prefader with that mixer, and you don't have a 3/4 mix on it either.

You would have to route the mic signal to the computer, and listen to playback and record in program itself.

You could try bringing the output of the Computer to the Tape in RCA's, then route Tape to Ctrl Room. (then the Headphones might get both signals, without going out the Main outs.)
Then route the Main outs to the Computer, sending just the Vox to an open track.

Try that see if it works.

man your quick, it took me all afternoon to figure this out. i juss dont get it, its hard for me to understand. this is how i have it now. maybe in the future i can look at getting a more apropriate mixer. oh well, nothings ever perfect , so this will have to do, and it should work just fine.

using the control room is a bit confusing, i dont understand alot of these functions. ever after reading the manual.

the only downfall, is when it recorded onto computer, i have to mix the beat everytime to hear what it sounds like with it, i cant just press solo or mute,

im using adobe audition... , i'd like to find a moer apropriate program too, but its working well for me, and i know my way around it, just upgraded to 1.5, a little more comfusing, and some interface functions are different, mouse does different things, but i still know it pretty well.

ideally, i love to have it so i can recorded both, in different channels, this way i dont have to worry about the damn mixer, and then just solo the acapella or beat or whatever. that makes perfect sense to me. i wonder if its possible. i have 2 outs right? tape out and main out.

Well 3 if you count the Cntrl room out.

Audition looks like a pretty good program, i've never messed with it but it kinda looks like Sony Vegas.

You should be able to route the Main out into the sound card and record like that.
