Tape Deck

JVC TD-W204 cassette deck A very good double tapedeck. This one lasted for 10 years. It has dolby noise reduction, continous play and fast dubbing.

Sadly I can't find this one in my area.

I was thinking to dub to ferro tapes as it's more cheap and easy to find.
What do you think, stay with ferro or try to go with chrome tapes?

doesn't matter. just start doing it - you'll learn a lot more once you start trying to do it.
and don't be afraid to screw it up a couple times. again...this is really gonna be more about what is available to you and what yer capable of rather than some mythical internet-recommended best case scenario.

if i could sum up all the advice, its to be practical first then worry about the details. for example something you dont always think about is tape length. made tape for a buddy but for some reason he ordered tapes that were like a 30-45 seconds longer than the program on both sides. doesn't sound like a lot, but honestly, listening to those tapes with that totally blank bit just made the whole experience seem a lot less professional. we ended up re-editing some things to make the programs exactly the length of the tape.
(btw you can order mass order for cheap tapes in almost any length you want even at half-minute increments).
and that's my point - the subtle audio differences on a crap medium (my favorite, medium, anyway) is not going to matter as much as the way you present the project and the pain you put yourself through to make it.
